Is it just me or is this 'situation' with North Korea getting more than a little bit scary ??
Is it just sabre rattling or are we on the verge of nuclear war ?

Maybe relegation and rep are the last things we should be worried about !!

    :(

It does seem like its right on the edge. It would be a clusterfuck of a situation. Japan and SK would be screwed, as well as the US bases in the area. NK has a large sub fleet too, I wonder how many of these are waiting of the US coast 10 miles away from cities like NY and LA.

NK cant be nuked back without massively harming SK and China with fallout. It could be WWIII if the US upsets china, they will use the situation to take Taiwan as well as striking back against the US. I just hope we stay out of it instead of being the US lapdog as usual. after all, they refused to help us in the falklands.

We need to send in DT as the peacemaker.

If youre worried, imagine what Park and Young are thinking. South Koreans and Japanese must be really ****ting themselves. it would be like France having thousands or long range artillery lined up on the coast pointing towards us.

I live close enough to a target to be able to hear its air raid siren go off (that was a real wtf moment the 1st time I heard that when I moved!) so I would be toast if they targeted us but were ok as long as it doesnt go global and involves China and/or Russia.

Another possibility, boring though it may be, is that absolutely nothing might happen. How terrible would that be?

Its been escalating every day, the US flew stealth bombers over SK today. Youve got a nutter on one side and the most evil country in the world on the other side and they only reason they havent invaded is that NK have no natural resources they can steal.

Its the 1st time in my lifetime that Ive thought we could be days or weeks away from a possible nuclear war.

North Korea are sabre rattling mate, the North Korean military is antiquated and inferior; it wouldn't last long against a U.S.-led counter-attack. No matter how badly such a war would go for South Korea or the United States, it would almost certainly end with the regime’s total destruction. Provocations and threats do serve N.Korea's interests, even if no one takes those threats very seriously. It helps to rally North Koreans, particularly the all-important military, behind the leader who has done so much to impoverish them. It also helps Pyongyang to control the regional politics that should otherwise be so hostile to its interests.

When China is your ally and likes the current arrangement of nations in the region you'd be well advised not to go upsetting it by causing chaos in the area. The NKs might be a bit nuts, but they're surely not nuts enough to piss off their ally when they've got far more nukes/WMDs, the biggest combined military force in the world, and a land border with them. If they attack South Korea and bring America into it the Yanks might not have chance to strike back before the Red Army is mobilised against the NKs.

Im not sure China would go against NK, NK is a handy buffer between them and the US. I know the Chinese would in no way allow the yanks to use nukes or occupy NK. We could see China fighting the US in NK if the NK army is wiped out. Whatever happens, its not going to be as easy as the nuke em brigade think. You just have to look at a map to know nuking back isnt an option.

NK has an army of 1.2m people, its not going to be as easy as some would like to think, especially when Seoul is on the doorstep of the border.

Both sides are itching for a war but both are trying to sucker the other into making the 1st move so they can claim the moral high ground.

The current North Korean regime is seen as the lesser of two evils. It doesn't matter whether North Korea as a country would still exist with a massive land war going on, the current regime wouldn't if they did anything that made America get more actively involved in the region.

I know, it would leave China and the US fighting over NK, now thats something we really dont want to see. China is not going to let the US put up missile bases right on their border.

Isn't this just the Cold War equivalent of two kids splashing each other in a paddling pool?

Stand off, by deterent, with every world leader getting to look authoritarian and important.

The difference is even in the cold war, they refused to start it even though they thought a nuke was coming. One side failed to inform the other about a satellite launch so they picked up the rocket being launched and still didnt send nukes back. NK would have gone into all out war. Even the BBC are saying it could get started through a misunderstanding, eg NK thinging the stealth bomber was flying in their airspace. NK are different to other countries.

He's probably a Reading supporter and knows his team is relegated so he really doesn't give a toss.

Either that or as a Chelsea supporter ............... they do whatever they like and bugger everyone else.

Of course they are, they're even worse than the tabloids these days, and their "journalists" have just been on strike.

The US have given NK so much money over the years to try and help them and keep the peace.
The NK government have spent that money by trying to become a stronger force in the world while the majority of the country are starving and very poor.
The US have recently made sanctions against NK because of their nuclear tests, long range missiles and threats to SK.
They are unhappy about these sanctions and have responded with expected threats to get the sanctions lifted.
