So much for Ryan Nelsen's TFC "project" - recently lost his friend & benefactor:-

Toronto FC has fired president and general manager Kevin Payne......progress has been slow, with Toronto FC finishing 4-12-10 under coach Ryan Nelsen.

Season still running (about 5 games still to play) - watching game this evening, currently TFC 1-0 down against New York Red Bulls - Bradley Wright-Phillips must think he's in 2nd heaven playing alongside Thierry Henry (who scored the only goal so far).

Love the way people say ............ "we want to move in a different direction"
When things are going good, everybody loves the 'current direction'.
When thing aren't going right, they can't wait to get away from it ............... funny that.
One wonders if Ryan will get the tap on the shoulder.

Hope he does well. Don't understand the animosity towards him from some.

Some feel he left us in the lurch. Our player of the season up to the point he left.

We had a good chat about our CBs, including Nelsen, at the pub last night. Even if only there for half a season, he was my player of the year for last year. Let's face it, we were down whether he stayed or not. My abiding image of him will be the one man team performance he put in against Southampton at home, when none of our other players turned up. Looks like Dunne is shaping up to carry on this role - a proper CB, constantly talking to Ned in particular, 100% commitment.

One wouldn't be surprised come end of season - TFC (as per usual) are already out of playoff contention, so no sense in making a change right now - perhaps he'll keep his job, and be given the oportunity to build on things, with a solid finish to the season.

Chris Samba should have been more than man enough to replace him, but unfortunately wasn't up to the job - good thing we were able to take advantage of Anzhi's Christmas returns policy.

Goodnight Irene.....wonder if Nelsen will still be at the helm of TFC next MLS season.

Toronto FC officially eliminated from playoff contention

    http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/toronto-fc-officially-eliminated-from-playoff-contention-1.1854928

By their own admission, Toronto FC is laying the foundation for the future, because there isn't anything worth salvaging in the present. (always look on the bright side?)

"Portland was in the same situation last year and it can change so quickly," Bright Dike said after Toronto FC dropped a 2-0 decision to the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night.

"It is such a thin line between good and great, being at the bottom and being at the top."

Following their seventh straight loss, Toronto (4-14-11) was eliminated from post-season contention with the loss with five games remaining. Only D.C. United (3-19-6) has a worse record in all of Major League Soccer.

Despite the loss, head coach Ryan Nelsen reiterated the organization's belief that the future will portend success. (sounds a bit like Mark Hughes)

"Next year, there'll be a couple (designated players). There'll be a couple of our players who are playing, they'll have the same organization," Nelsen said. "We play against these teams with better opportunities every single week."

Nelsen was always getting misspelt as Nelson - I wonder if this guy sometimes gets passed off as Dyke - hopefully he always looks on the Bright side though!
