Manchester United officials looking at plans to expand Old Trafford capacity to 88,000 by adding extra tier to Sir Bobby Charlton Stand http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ted-looking-Old-Trafford-expansion-plans.html
Maybe you could actually get a ticket to attend once before you turn your toes up if this happens Ktard? You plastic ****er
All we need to do is ship in all the unused seats from the Emptyhad and we can up the capacity to 100k easy
Previously it was an all or nothing deal - either build right across the railway, demolish a load of houses and expand to 95k with a massive new tier, or do nothing. The main technology change is that we can now build a smaller second tier, and support it with a gantry rather than footings, like the new tier on Anfield (only much bigger and better of course ), so a smaller expansion to 88k becomes a possibility. It will probably look like it's hanging over the railway line a bit, but won't need all the foundations on the south side.
Makes sense. You will have the correct amount of disabled spaces then too, always thought that it was odd that the biggest club in the country didn't have enough spaces. I was hoping to come up there this season but it's scheduled for the 30th of December... and could get moved for TV so not great timing for me doing shift work.
Aye, that is a problem that needs to be solved. Although a fair part of that is having the largest ground and one of the oldest. So we have legacy problems with the number of current seats, whilst also being require to have at least 100 seats more than some of the other PL clubs in order to meet requirements. Still, good news that the club is planning to increase disabled and wheelchair spaces, regardless of whether the expansion goes ahead.
Agreed a big part of the problem is the age of the ground, though the majority has been rebuilt hasn't it? Also agreed that it's good it's getting done.
Expanded rather than rebuilt, and only really on the top tiers. The bottom tiers haven't been rebuilt much, and that's where most of the work would need to be done - even if you are going to put wheelchair and disabled seats in the upper tiers you would need lifts and access in the lower tiers.
This would be huge for the club, hopefully you'll get in the Guinness book of records for the World biggest toilet.
