Find this kind of thing so stupid. Does this mean you won't be able to have "A great gift for girls" next to the Disney princess toys? People have too much time on their hands to have a moan over such pathetic and meaningless stuff. Are there any other "Political Correctness Gone Mad" issues that really annoy you?!
Mrs cole needs to admit her daughter is probably going to be a butch lesbian Another good reason to say f you tesco for giving this **** air
She's probably right, it was lazy in-store advertising by them even though the overwhelming majority of people wanting it will be boys...but does this kind of **** really warrant being in the papers? Christ.
I agree with the complaint tbh. Advertising something as male or female orientated is stupid and out dated. Why can't a girl play with a boy toy or vice-versa...?
Because boy are more likely to play with them than girls. If you owned a ballerina company and were placing an advert during a tv programme, would you go for HT at a football match, or during an episode of some girly programme on a kids tv channel? It's about appealing and hitting your target audience. Even so, is it really worth complaining and making a huge deal over something like this? Are Yorkie going to have to change their "just for men" tag line?
You see, I think the reaction to it is the ridiculous part. I couldn't give a **** about whether it said boy or girl in the first place but for someone to complain and then the reaction to the complaints is what I find over the top. If it really doesn't matter than why is it being discussed...? As I said, the store was perhaps a bit silly in the first place since its not a toy that just boys will play with. As crazy as it may sound, it was always going to attract attention in modern PC times
Advertising something as male or female orientated is stupid and out dated. What twaddle! The item was designed for the majority of boys to play with. There is no legislation stopping her mother from purchasing the item for her if she so wishes. She may be upset that the item is described as being for boys and it is her right to complain. However, it is beholden to take a far stiffer stance in defending their promotion. Finally "Advertising something as male or female orientated is stupid and out dated." Why is it. Perhaps your pc stance on the issue is truly out dated!
Of course girls can play with 'boys' toys - just buy it, take it home and play with it without the need for once again girls wanting to get in on 'boys only' stuff. I bet if the mother of that little girl had a boy who wanted to walk through the shop dancing with joy with his pink fluffy angel wings, she'd be telling him to hand them to her to carry because people were watching! She's be as embarrassed as anything but it's somehow totally different when girls want to buy supposed boys toys. Another thing, elderly shoppers for example buying boys toys for the first time might like to be pointed in the right direction. And although I think toys can be gender neutral - it depends on each child's individual choice - I'm still in touch with reality enough to know that there are toys which are favoured by boys and those favoured by girls and I have no problem with them being labelled as such.
Technically, the fact that it's a fun gift for a boy makes no statement as to whether its a fun gift for a girl or not. Mountain out of a molehill really.
i have seen plenty of signs saying girls toys ffs. why is this ****e only an issue when it works one way?
Such a complete non story, whoever it was complained obviously has a lot of spare time on their hands
Bring back the 70's ffs. People who complain about this sort of stuff are opportunists looking for a free lunch, don't tell me the 7 yr old took offence of her own volition and then structured her own complaint to Tesco....no, her mother saw an opportunty to pretend to be offended and bag some freebies. People who specialise in this sort of **** are skanks imo.
I bet you'd get your girls any toy they wanted whether labelled boy or girl right? Would you not buy a Star Wars Lego set they wanted because it was in the boys section? My eldest lad's favourite toy at one time was a sweeping brush set and he also had a mickey mouse small tea set - I've got no problem buying a supposed girls toy for a boy and couldn't care less what the shop sign said. [he grew up to be an aeronautical engineer btw]
Pretty much, gender specific toys are stupid anyway, my kids get toys based on their ages not gender. My daughter will never be given Barbies to play with either, I'd rather give her Lego or mechano, it's a developmental toy lego at least. Books too, we get the kids lots of books throughout the year from the library and as presents. I wonder what toys that are gender speicific that are actually worth buying?
my girls already have plenty of boys toys, cars little metal ones (cars the film) moshi monsters scalextric etc, they also have **** loads of girls stuff barbie, bratz etc. its funny they are making such a fuss out of this, as if you went into a big super market and asked where the girls toys for eg was, they would point you to a whole ****ing isle not a poxy little sign so they should say, "sorry sir we don't discriminate against, there is no gender specific isle" ffs really!!!
Funny you should say that - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/...sic-Ladybird-drops-books-gender-branding.html
