As Tolkien said, the relationship of Frodo and Sam is based on the relationship between an officer and his batman, even more so in the books.

To be honest I do buy DVDs (my name is in the credits at the end ofthe extended LotR DVDs too for being a 'supporter' btw) of films I want to watch repeatedly but for the rest I might as well be wearing an eye-patch and carrying a cutlass.

I just shipped my books and DVD to Canada last summer and it turns out I have 630 DVDs :emoticon-0102-bigsm

    - I read that too DavidDuck... I think it's a relationship we cannot really understand 100 years on so it leaves it open for innuendo.

I have a load of **** DVDs stored away.

Even some random Christian epic based on 2012 that's never been opened. Someone got it thinking it was the other (also ****) 2012 movie. <laugh>

Sounds weird but I love buying DVD's and CD's. Most CD's I put on my iPod and laptop then never listen to, but it looks cool having a collection. Most DVD's i'll watch once or twice then put in the collection.

As for Frodo and Sam, it's a true bromance bond. They are basically brothers by the end of it all.

I've never seen 2012... have wanted to though, is it that bad?

I'm the same. I buy far too many films and unfortunately alot of them aren't worth owning. My rejects collection is probably bigger than most peoples totals.

I use lovefilm as a filter now. I tend to watch any films i'm not positive of on rental and then only buy the keepers. £15 a month rental but I reckon i've not bought about 50 dvds last year alone that I know I would have bought otherwise. Saving me loads of cash.

I use Pirate Bay and Kickasstorrents as my filters - but it's the same idea... I still buy what I want to 'keep'

2012 is one of those films that is only worth seeing in Imax IMHO

Yes 100%... still... seeing cities destroyed in an Imax cinema has a certain visceral quality

    I'm utterly insulted sir!

Quite a few Chester-le-Street mags on here. Even though I was born in Durham and raised in Chester-le-Street, my mother's a geordie and my dad's from Washington and they are both toon fans. My dad actually used to carpool for a few of the players back in the 80s, he's been on a night out with gazza and been in Vinnie Jones house, but never mention to him how Washington is technically part of Sunderland...

This. As long as you're sound most of us will welcome you. Catch it at the wrong time and you'll get hounded out. Poor Hoadie.

Just caught up with the conversation, and it was certainly a very interesting read. Want to get back into reading them again now, although I can't find my copy of LotR (May have lent it to my brother), so I will have to make do with The Hobbit for now. <ok>

Aidan Turner is a good actor and he is Kiri (the second dwarf Gandalf mentions). It is looking like some good films are out next year.

If they film the Silmarillion, it'll be the equivalent of the current trend to move onto comic book films no-one's heard of, because the good stuff's been done.

That said, I stopped reading in the first chapter, maybe I'll try again if you say it gets better. Also, how did Dune ever get filmed? Turgid horrible book.

PS did anyone see the argument Randall has with the LOTR fan in Clerks 2?
