We win the toss and will bat first. Bit surprised at that, Trent Bridge doesn't turn that much and with overcast conditions I thought we would be keen to get Anderson, Finn and Broad stuck into their fragile looking batting line-up. Oh well, what do I know!
Who the hell is that Agar kid in the Aussie team? What a baptism of fire that is- day 1 of an Ashes series on your arch rivals soil. First 2 hours is always tough in any test match. Cook and Root need to get through it. Looking forward to seeing how the Yorkshire lads do, even Starc for the Aussies.
Having looked at Starc and Pattinson, I think their bowlers can definitely cause us problems, they both have superb actions. But they haven't any quality in the spinning department and their batsmen have little depth. A lot depends on our batting line up, for me. The bowlers will easily get wickets but the batsmen need to get something for them to bowl at.
As a test match captain you have a think about bowling. Then again. Then think a bit more about bowling. Then decide to bat.
Wonder how long it will be before Pattinson is warned about bowling too many bouncers at Root's head???
Even though I never thought I'd see us win the Ashes in my life time, and I did, and despite the fact we're the current holders, I always expect England to go down faster than a 5 quid prossie. Judging by what's happening at the moment with the Aussies, I'd say a little of both, plus ofc the Aussies are never ever going to be a walk over regardless of the press crap about the turmoil their teams suffering. Should be a good series this.
Thank god the Aussies are struggling as well. I thought our total was poor but it is not looking that way at the moment.
That Pattinson is a proper cock. I hope when he comes in to bat Jimmy knocks his two front teeth out with a beamer. Mouthy **** that he is.
Aussie bowling was so ****e for most of the day, the English top order went after them too eagerly and lacked composure & discipline and gave away their wickets. Loving Boycott's analysis of the days play on C5 highlights. He's not amused. Didn't think Clarke would get out for a duck though. Both Top Orders have been crap. Game on.
Nearly lunch on day two and the Aussie fightback is on. 178-9 with the number 11 looking like he should be in the top three!
