Hi everyone, Yes, I am still alive (No, I have not left for Sheffield Wednesday hoping for glory, or whatever the web message said ) And I make my post comeback with a question about tax returns in the UK. Something doesn't feel right How does it work? Do you get papers sent home? Do you have to claim it urself? Who do I need to contact regarding it in that case? When is it usually? Would appreciate all useful advise. // Febbos, who will try to make a small comeback
first off: not everyone has to do one. most people don't do them. if you just work in a normal job as an employee they won't ask you. the tax year runs from about april 5th each year. tax returns filled in on forms should be in by 31 october. returns filled in online should be done by january 31 (but sometimes things get slow online on that date). this might help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_return_(United_Kingdom) and this: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/sa/index.htm (it's called self assessment, but it will do the calculations). if they owe you money they will send a cheque or pay it into a bank account you specify.
If you are self-employed you need to fill in tax-returns but if you work for the man it all gets done for you over here.
Hi Febbos, I work in accountancy practice so if youve got any specific questions just ask (going away for a week or 2 this week). although X has given some good info
I was wondering where you'd disappeared to. Here in the UK, it's normal to get paid in cash and to store your money in a secret compartment in your mattress, this way, you don't actually have to pay any tax at all.
