So, with the vote for Scottish independence just around the corner, what are our views on what the result should be? Do we want Scotland to remain in the UK at all costs? Do we want them to piss off and not darken our doors? Do we actually give a ****? Is it a conspiracy? Here's your chance to air your views, if indeed you have any, on the question of Scottish independence from the UK.
My worry is that if we lose Scotland, we'll have Tories in power forever. Unless there's some other mechanic that would come into play in terms of the number of constituencies etc that I don't know of. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/2432632/UK-General-Election-2010-political-map.html
The sweaties have plenty to lose and little to gain by breaking the Union. From an English perspective, they can do what they like for me, as collectively they take more from the public purse than they contribute, so **** 'em.
See JK Rowling (an Anglo-Scot, I suppose) has put money into the no campaign, her reasoning being that Unionists are being howled down and derided as unpatriotic. The way this whole thing has been handled by Westminster has been appalling; did we really think we could bully the scots with threats about sterling and the EU? And every time Cameron opens his smug, southern, toff gob to deride the super-state of the EU and its centralised, distant and undemocratic powers the buffoon makes the case the Scottish separatism stronger. Nevertheless, good on you JK, though you will be dismissed, derided and howled down too, but someone has to stand up for the many (majority?) of Scots who, perversely, back the Scottish Nationals during elections as being the best to get the optimum deal for Scotland, but still want to be part of the Union.
Now that we've used up most of their oil over the last thirty years to pay for welfare payments with the intention of forcing down unit labour costs, yeah, ****'em.
Exactly and let's build that ****ing wall back up while we're at it. Stick some broken bottles on the top of it this time. Skirt wearing, ginger heathens
5/8ths - how the **** does that work? Actually don't bother explaining mate I'm only joking btw. I love the place. I think they'll vote to stay part of the Union, as independence is fraught with danger for them as a Nation and they more than realise that fact, plus Alex Salmond is total bell end.
Rangers(the only "British" flag waving club in Scotland) fans are vehemently against Scotland leaving the Union because there total reason for existing will be null and void if the Scots vote for independence. please log in to view this image
I think it is in England and Scotland's best interest that the union be preserved. A larger country- with a larger single economy can make better deals and carry more influence on the global scene. Not to mention- we don't have any decent tennis players in England- and Scotland doesn't have any decent F1 drivers. It's win-win... Scotland gets to claim F1 victories- and we get to claim Wimbledon victories. Back to being serious though. Short of mineral wealth, and an open economy, the third major factor in individual wealth and wellbeing is being part of a large economy, the more people who can trade amongst themselves as part of one economy, the better off everyone becomes.
Both are based in fact though surely? The yes campaign had publicly at least, taken both as a 'given' when they are far from that.
I'm not Scottish but I would ask myself when voting to consider what has the Westminster Government done for Scotland in the last 30 or 40 years. In the 40s and 50s there was large-scale poverty there, particularly Glasgow as there still is today. So the Westminster Government pays out loads in benefits - a scheme designed to keep people poor. In the meantime, Scotland in general and Glasgow was stripped of its rich industrial heritage and replaced with retail therapy malls. And as a sweetner the sly Westminster Government promises to invest in the defence sector industry. How very sweet! I hope the Scots tell the Westminster to f*** o**. It has a bigger population than Norway and that country is doing very well.
And the same questions could be asked about what the Westminster Government has done for the North of England ever since her holiness the "Blessed Margaret" was elected in 1979!! Time for an independent North of England. Actually that is what the EU project is about - promoting federalism and making the regions more powerful at the expense of national governments. Make your mind up guys.
I thought it was Safferners that you guys despised particularly the odious Boris, empty-headed Farage and the aloof Cameron!! Nothing wrong with Tykes and they do serve one hell of a pint of Tetleys or they did!
Er, actually.... it's 3/8ths. based it on great-grandparents. The rest are a combination of irish, welsh, Chinese and - GERMAN! Not a drop of English blood in me. You should do your family tree. Liverpool is the ultimate mongrel breeding-ground!
