What's happening with it, last I heard it was being altered so you can walk through it. Anyone know what's occurring or have a link to any updates?

The Lighthouse itself has been refurbished.

It is currently closed so the pier can be re-pointed, the railings replaced and resurfaced.

I believe it is the councils intention to overhaul the tunnel, have lighting installed and give tours.

I have been in the tunnel many years ago, although just the first 100 metres or so due to a friend who was a surveyor at the council, it was damp, dark and in need of attention.

Amazing it is still standing after 100 years +, I reckon there is no other pier like it in Britain, I have researched and cannot find a better one. The Victorians knew how to construct them days, just like the Alexander bridge arches.

It will be amazing to walk the whole length of the pier from within, which I have been led to believe is the intention.

How confident are you that that's the councils position, to open it up? It would be awesome if that were the case.

I used to go fishing with my mates on it when I was a kid.

One of my saddest memories as a kid is of being up by the cafe, watching the lifeboats out inside the piers, and a helicopter overhead, in the dark, looking for some young lad washed off the pier a few hours after we'd been fishing there. Don't remember exactly when, but it would have been somewhere between 74 and 77, I think.

    That scarred me, still does.

"It was damp, dark and in need of attention"

An extract from Susan Boyle's autobiography?
