Former Brazil and Barcelona superstar Rivaldo has retired.

At his final club he was apparently the president and a player plus his son also played for team aswell as the stadium being named after him.

He will always be rememberes for one of the best/worst examples of play acting ever. He might also be remembered for being an absolutely brilliant footballer.

He's never mentioned as one of the best players in the world, i will always remember his overhead kick against Valencia.

Agreed, if Zidane wasn't around, i feel people would be talking about him as one of the best players in our era.

  6. That face injury finally caught up with him eh? <laugh>

Quality player despite the ridiculous play acting, scored a good freekick against us for Olympiakos in 2004-05 when we needed to win by two clear goals to progress.

Thought he'd retired years ago mind. Just checked and he's 41 so its about time really <laugh>

Don't be stupid, that one incident doesn't even remotely overshadow what was a great career and a brilliant player. just surprised he is retiring now, thought he retired years ago.

unless you only started watching football towards the end of his career<whistle>

Definitely up there with Zidane and the fat Ronaldo as one of the finest players of that generation. I remember the 2002 World Cup when Brazil had a front 3 of him, the fat Ronaldo and a young Ronaldinho, that was some frontline, no wonder they won the tournament.

That goal against Valencia there was outrageous, that has to be fairly high up on the lists of best goal ever. There are not many players that would even attempt it never mind be good enough to pull it off.

The play acting didn't do his reputation any favours, but most South Americans are like that, it is definitely the dominant continent when it comes to cheating and foul play, and I'm sure we will see plenty of it at this summers World Cup
