Another who's politics I seldom agreed with, but a very principled man. I always found him very engaging, knowledgeable and fascinating to listen to. RIP.
Someone I really respected...saw his one man show a few years back...a fascinating man, very principled, very thoughtful. Cruelly treated by the press RIP
A great man and an honest politician (Sadly an oxymoron these days). A man who was well respected on all sides of the political divide and will be sadly missed by society. RIP
His legacy is here in the respect shown in our posts irrespective of our political views. Tony Benn set us a marker as to what an honest politician should be like. Pondlife such as Osborne, Umunna, Farage and Clegg show us just how high a standard he set.
Clever, charming, genuine, erudite, eloquent, made the best of bad arguments, thought-provoking and a great foil to all the political parties I'm missing him already. RIP Tony Benn
Fair enough Stainsey, no doubting his high standard of behaviour. I've edited original post, wasn't right for here. Umunna should be flattered to be called pond life.
Didn't agree with his politics but an interesting man to listen too, something that can't be said for today's politicians.....
Umunna was my MP until this year, I've always voted Labour but couldn't bring myself to vote for that smarmy fùcker. "In fact, the suave Opposition business spokesman featured in two separate internet-related tales. The more minor one concerned his entry of seven years ago on Asmallword, an enviably exclusive social networking site for the few, not the many (though it charitably sets aside an overflow section, Abigworld, for us plebs), about the horrors of the London club scene in the mid-Nineties. For asking fellow members to advise him where he might avoid the “trash and C-list wannabes” infesting nightclubs rendered déclassé to his glacially cool self by their “cheesy vibe”, Mr Umunna issued a heartfelt apology." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/pol...Umunna-is-the-victim-of-a-vile-stitch-up.html
Always seemed to talk sense and was maybe the last decent bloke in the trifle ... he could see it all
RIP? What else is he going to do?? As the first poster said, I didn't agree with his politics but he certainly was an interesting man, worth watching and listening to. A character like him will be missed.
Undoubtedly the most principled politician of the post-war era. A giant amongst pygmies in Parliament. RIP...
