The great James Garner passed away yesterday, aged 86. He was a true Hollywood star who never acted like one. I broke out my box set of 'The Rockford Files' last night and enjoyed a few episodes of the classic series from the 70s/80s. He was married to the same woman for 57 years, almost unheard of with Hollywood legends. He served in the Korean War, earning two purple hearts. He said to one interviewer "I wasn't brave or anything. I just got in the way a lot". He did go through a bad patch with his wife once, a good few years ago. On one occasion, he was playing in a pro-am golf tournament. He was standing waiting to tee off and a reporter said "How are things with your wife, Jim". Garner turned round and knocked the ****er out, to the cheers of the crowd. He was a great actor and was well-loved by all who knew and worked with him. A sad loss. RIP James Garner
support your local sherrif... the rockford files. IMO the rockford file is one on THE theme tunes. I love James garner.. a great life lived
RIP James Garner.. Loved the Rockford files, agree, theme tune was superb Great actor and will be missed!
RIP James.....a great actor and a great man Also, kudos to Mike Post, The A-Team, CHiPS, Law & Order, NYPD Blue, LA Law, Rockford Files, Quantum Leap, Magnum PI , Hill Street Blues. Quite a theme song repertoire!!
I remember the Rockford Files being on TV on Saturdays as I was getting ready to go out. My Mum & Dad would be so glued to it they probably never knew I had left the house. He was good in The Great Escape apparently when McQueen stormed of set he was offered the McQueen role but refused it and persuaded McQueen to return as he knew the film would flop without McQueen. Although they never got on off set despite being neighbours. Mainly because McQueen was such a little s**t of a man.
In his autobiography, he said McQueen "Wasn't much of an actor". I ****ing agree with him. Garner's role in The Great Escape as The Scrounger was perfect for him
