What are everyone's thoughts on this then? Certainly not the best fighter I've seen, not even the best British fighter, but he's my favourite by some distance. Epitomises everything about the British grit and resistance that we all love. Would have been a lot more even with Mayweather imo if the referee hadn't broken them up every time they got into close quarters, came back and beat Mailgnaggi who was very highly regarded at the time, but it was still far too early to fight Pacquiao. I think this could be a roaring success, great to see the Hitman back, and hopefully he can set up a fight with Amir Khan and put the soft sack on his arse!
To be honest I was really sad to hear the news that he is going to fight again..For me he has been a great fighter who just doesn't know when to call it a day..
With MrRaw on this one, good fighter in his day but was past his best when he retired 3 years ago, he should just leave it in the past and move on. Must need the money eh?
Khan didn't break a sweat vs Malignaggi, the guy is a 2nd rate fighter with a mouth as big as his head. Khan would destroy Hatton with his speed, but I doubt Hatton will ever have it in him to come back and beat who he needs to beat to earn a fight with Khan at Light Welterweight, so unless Khan steps up to 147lbs and gives him the fight as a sort of, charity gesture (which Khan doesn't need) then I doubt it will happen. People think Hatton is great because he's only been beaten by Pacman and FMJ. He ducked and dived his entire career to chase dollars, now he will have to get past the likes of Tim Bradley to earn big bucks, and Bradley will tear his head off.
The times rich list for 2012 (I think it was the Times) values him at 26million. Unless he walked into a casino and spunked it all on red or black then I can't see that being th ecase mate I think boxing is his life, and all his training/promoting can't fill the void. Not sure what it will take for him to stop, health is an obvious concern RAW, but I'm just excited to see what he can do. It will make for good viewing so long as he doesn't hurt himself. He's only had one crushing defeat to be fair Vince, another that many would put down partly to bad refereeing, heck, if one bad defeat means your finished then Amir Khan has been finished 2 or 3 times! lol.
Khan is a very money motivated fighter himself, a fight with khan would likely be worth as much to him as a world title fight, I can see it happening. I think Hatton's strength would make it a lot less of a one sided fight than you think Terry.
mag I do a lot of work with one of Khan's closest friends. Khan is as bling as they come, but he is focussed on getting into the ring with Mayweather - trust me, he doesn't need this fight at all. He's 25 and has bigger fish to fry than The Hitman, he has a very important 5 years or so ahead of him and if he were to unfortunately lose to a veteran Hatton, that could do some serious detriment to his ambitions long term. In my opinion, Hatton should go back to what he does best, fighting fringe fighters to make himself look good and I maintain, somebody of the Bradley/Khan desc, would annihilate him.
That's as may be, but after his last fight many of the top fighters, including Mayweather, ridculed his chances of fighting them in the near future. Who exactly could Khan fight? A fight with even a poor Hatton would give him a lot of prestige and to win a fight that would have that much interest would surely get him back on the map of Mayweather, Pacquiao etc.
Hatton doesn't carry any credibility as a fighter after his cocaine scandal, he's back but he's not going to slip straight into the same rank he earned before he retired. It's the same with the Klitchko's why do they need to fight a 50 year old Evander Holyfield to prove themselves, until he's earned his fight by climbing their weight division it's nothing but a joke that fight. Khan should go for a rematch with Garcia as his next short term goal, but much like Andy Murray he probably needs to get back to the drawing board first and foremost and see where his mistakes are being made. I have no doubt Mayweather would trounce Khan, as would Pacquiao (Freddy Roach wouldn't allow this fight to happen, Khan may need to drop Roach), but he's got to aim high for his own good, he's only 25. In my opinion he should fight Kendal Holt at his own weight then stick half a stone on for Kell Brook, then back to Garcia to earn his rep back, if he gets beat by Garcia again, he'll never get that fight with FMJ. But he can afford to be bouncing between weights for fights right now with no titles to worry about.
Fair enough, think there's any chance of Khan getting a bout with bradley, that would be huge? Bradley's last win was a joke mind, wouldn't be surprised to see him back in the ring with Pacquiao. Had no idea Holyfield was coming back either, that should make for some entertainment!
I dont know him personally but literally live round the corner to Ricky Hatton (not name dropping or owt). Saw him out running the other day. Thought he was doing well with his gym and promoting business but clearlly the hunger is still there and he thinks he has unfinished business. Agree in that cant see him beating anyone out there with pedigree and worried that he may get hurt depending on who he fights next. Genuinely nice bloke though so wish him well.
Holyfield's knocking on 50! haha He's still got it apparently but I've not seen any of his recent fights, although he did lose to that mongrel Valuev back in 2008 so I can't see him earning his fight for a belt with either Klitchko. Khan vs Bradley is probably as big as it's gonna get for Khan to be honest, I doubt Mayweather would ever step in the ring with Khan but I totally respect Khan for making that his goal, gotta aim high. I'd imagine Bradley would give him a fairly decent going over but it all depends on where Khan emerges after going back to the drawing board, he's got the talent to win that fight offensively it's just his weak chin and his inability to recover from big punches that's let him down in the past. Don't get me wrong, I'd be excited for a Hatton vs Khan showdown, I'd have to get behind Khan though.
I think Khan needs some time away working solely on his chin, e all know he has the ability, but he doesn't even appear to have taken seriously the problem that gave him a major embarassment against Prescott. I also can't ever see him fighting Mayweather, but he can definitely be world champion again if he sorts his chin out. Don't forget Valuev was highly rated before Haye gave him a good going over. All we need now is Tyson to come back and we will have a REAL showdown.
Totally this. It's a massive mistake and even if he does fight Khan and beats him as is probable, its just not worth it Ricky. Good fighter, great bloke. Very bad decision.
Is he still a light-welterweight/welterwight? Probs a light-middle/middle after 3 years on the bevvy. Should let it lie and enjoy the cash...
Not sure to be honest mate. Would think he's a welter at the very lightest, probably one or two divisions above that.
Certainly one of my favourite fighters, only lost to the two best active boxers. Really didn't want him to start boxing again though, his only defence was his face, I doubt he could take as much punishment this time around. He will probably fight at 147.
Time will tell mate, the argument that he's too old certainly doesn't wash with me like, you may be right about his chin due to time out of the game or whatever, we shall see.
