Went to see Queen last night in Leeds, not everyone's taste I'm sure, and they were awesome with this young Yank lad Adam Lambert providing vocals. Queen will never be Queen without Freddie, but last night was extremely close.
Adam Lambert cannot do justice to lyrics designed for Freddie Mercury & his voice is nothing like as powerful. I have seen the proper Queen lineup play live 4 times so was not interested in this tour. No doubt for those who never saw Queen live with Freddie or younger people just discovering their music it was good, but I prefer to remember the real Queen
I saw Queen at Elland Rd in the early 80's. Might have been 82 but I'm not 100% Fantastic gig just before they ventured to the middle of the road. One of the support acts was The Teardrop Explodes, who left the stage early after being pelted with bottles and other objects
I was at that Elland Road gig, it was 29th May 1982. I'm a big Queen fan and was fortunate to have seen them live a few times, and as far as I'm concerned the band finished the day Freddie Mercury died.
I too saw Queen with Freddie, only twice mind, it was just great hearing a lot of old stuff from Queen 1&2.
I think you do a disservice to Brian May there who was the real talent in Queen. Freddie Mercury was just a big willy woofter.
Not me favourite band but I remember some of their toons fondly. If anyone wants to do a top ten similar to the Bowie one I reckon I could just about muster up a list.
That'll be the one. Can you remember who else supported them apart from Teardrop Explodes? I seem to remember there were 3 or 4.
Joan Jet and The Blackhearts were one that I recall. She came out and shouted "Hello Leeds" and was met with absolute silence. Teardrop Explodes were only on because at earlier gigs on the tour Bow Wow Wow were on and were also given abuse so dropped out.
Agree that Brian May was/is the best. Disagree that Freddie was "just" a big willie woofter, though he was one, of course
For what ever reason Queen have never really done for me. Brian May is a exceptional guitarist and Freddie was probably the greatest frontman ever.
And Roger Taylor >> almost all other drummers, and John Deacon is responsible for some of the all-time greatest riffs. All very clever lads too. Did you ever play Another Bites The Dust, backwards?
