I do not know any other profession or part of society where patting people on the bum is so widespread. It's amusing! Football is stereotypically a very masculine sport but this element of it is so camp. I wonder when it started really happening and I wonder why it is so common in the game. In fact, outside of the game it is basically unheard of. I guess it's a way to lighten the mood. I wonder if any players hate it or feel offended by it. I wonder if, when you join a team, you have to know which players like it or don't, haha. please log in to view this image
Almost 30 years ago this Canadian politician ran into problems "pressing the flesh" - well at least he swings both ways in that respect? To some, it's a chummy greeting from a bygone era. To others it's an outdated gesture that's an affront to all women. When John Turner is caught on camera in patting the bum of Liberal Party President Iona Campagnolo, the 55-year-old finds himself the target of criticism from across the country. In this CBC Television report, Turner tries to defend a gaffe that threatens to overshadow his campaign. http://www.cbc.ca/archives/categori...of-john-turner/a-very-tactile-politician.html
No bloody idea why, but our boss at the bar does this on a very consistent basis! Seriously, you can't Bend over when he's working. And he's as straight as an arrow!!

But I need answers! Why is it such a big part of football? Watch any game and it happens multiple times, throughout, before and after.
Perhaps at heart they're all a bunch of bleedin' ****ters who wish they were named Bruce? You seem really preoccupied with this bum patting theme? please log in to view this image
I never saw any of that in all my years play. It happens all the time in yanks sports though although their sports culture does have some seriously gay overtones.
Reminds me of a friend who gave me massages, she couldnt help spanking my arse when she finished. When I played snooker, I used to run the cue up the inside of my mate taking the shot, worryingly he never missed potting it.
In years gone by, if they tried it in rugby league ........... the said player would of copped a bunch of fives in the next scrum. Much the same with all the high fives and mounting of players on the ground after someone scores a goal ....................
Any human contact, except that in anger, is about intimacy. With a mate, you often touch a shoulder as you say hello or goodbye. Obviously there is the ultimate intimacy. I've never really thought about it but I guess a pat on the butt from a team member, or indeed a worthy opponent, is a sign that you been to the edge of endurance and skill with blood sweat and tears. Just a bit more intimate than a touch on the shoulder.
You wouldnt do it to a woman at work unless you were really good friends so it shouldnt be done to someone youre just played 90 minutes against. I shook hands with opponents who deserved it and just walked off if they didnt deserve it.
If you were walking through a rose garden in full bloom with Cheryl Cole, she wearing a small top and g-string, would you be able to find her bum to pat it?
So a pat on the arse in any game played by Americans has 'seriously gay overtones', while you sticking a snooker cue up your mate doesn't?
I said their culture, naked towel fights, etc. Mind you its the same in Rugby where youd see them make the new recruits run naked, no other sports teams did that. Theres was no contact with me, Id have never done it with my hands, big difference.
