http://theleedscitizen.wordpress.co...l-cash-going-in-yorkshire-a-couple-of-tables/ Outraged, utterly outraged. RANT. Leeds £59 MILLION, rest of Yorkshire £43 MILLION. Do you think anyone can actually justify the distribution of 'The Arts' funding in Yorkshire for the next 3 years?! Bearing in mind Sheffield has the regional theatre of the year in the UK for the second year running and Hull is Capital of Culture in 2017, why is it that Leeds, population approx 750,000 gets £59.5 MILLION whilst the rest of Yorkshire, population approx 4.5 MILLION only gets £43M?! Rotherham will only get £200,000 over the next 3 years, that's about 30p per head per year! Meanwhile Leeds gets nearly 300 times as much! And people wonder why everyone hates Leeds. Yes I do feel bitter and so should everyone else in Yorkshire!
It's like this with everything funding wise in Yorkshire. And we're all supposed to get excited for the Tour of France of course since it's coming to 'Yorkshire' except it's only the bits the southerners already know about from watching Emmerdale Farm.
C'mon give Leeds a break...... They all need something to do, its not as though they can go and watch a quality football team is it....
I really like Leeds as a place. Second nicest City in Yorkshire, behind York. Those two are head and shoulders above the rest.
I was reading that the new owner of lufc has asked the manager to drop paddy kenny because his bday is on the 17th and he hates the number 17?? crazy times for tws!
Not everyone hates Leeds as a place, in my opinion its the best city in Yorkshire to live in, hence why I moved here for Uni and never left. There's no point getting angry about the distribution of arts funding until you know how the decision was made, I very much doubt those are just arbitrary amounts assigned to preferential cities. Its also misleading as to who the beneficiaries are, for example Opera North spends more time touring outside of Leeds than it does performing in Leeds, so although the funding shows on the Leeds budget the cities residents are not the only beneficiaries.
Sheffield got loads for Environmental measures, that ultimately didn't achieve their objectives, so they've got loads more. They're barely in Yorkshire any way, Notts and Derbyshire gits.
'Leeds' includes villages miles away from it, that want no part in it. A bit like the people in Leeds want no part in the football team, it's a rugby city.
True, though Harrogate isn't a city. If you drop down to towns, there's loads, Harrogate, Whitby, Beverley, Helmsley, Bedale, Nortallerton, Yarm etc.
David Burns ‏@bbcburnsy @origlambman Ta for that. We'll have a go at that, probably tomorrow. £30m for opera? No wonder the fat lady is singing!
Contrast the wide open parklands and gardens of Harrogate to the total absence of greenery in Leeds city centre. We have a greener city centre then Leeds and a greener stadium location, where does all their office fadge go for alfresco lunch sunbathing in summer?
As I said above, it isn't just this issue. Funding from above distributed into Yorkshire always seems to have favoured Leeds.
I heard that driving over OLM, nice one. We deal with the Arts council quite a bit, and they do come up with the odd ****witted decision, but that funding spread is just taking the piss.
