Just for anyone who hasn't seen it before...
Ironically The Sound of the Suburbs was the first 7" single I ever bought, from a record shop on Newland Ave, opposite the top of Sharp Street, can't remember what it was called.
I knew you'd comment on that. As it's the legend that is John Peel and he's doing a piece on both sides of the Humber, I'm letting him off.
I saw them a few years back at a mates festival in Oxfordshire, they were alright, but Do Anything You Wanna Do was the only song anyone knew.
Maybe when the prog was made Humberside was actually extant as an administrative region? Whatever, on the forecourt outside OT last night there were dozens of half h half sellers, many of whom were retailing one with our half saying Hull City AFC - Pride of Humberside. Was severely tempted to dob him in.
I couldn't believe how many half and half scarf sellers there were last night, though they'd have to translate Humberside into Kanji for half of the attendees to know what it meant.
I enjoyed watching that. I met Porky( I think his name was Dave) from Pork recordings a while back. Thoroughly decent chap.
But they were shifting the scarves- saw literally hundreds of people with em on. It's clear that at LFC and MUFC , it's big big business, and there are dozens of vendors, and literally thousands of customers. Couldn't believe how many foreign groups there were outside the ground. At one point, it seemed 100% foreign on the forecourt. What's that - 5 to 10,000 foreigners at every home game?
I walked in from the Lowry and there were coaches with 'sport/culture tours' written on them, saw one load of Spanish and another of Chinese. I suppose that's how you fill a 75k stadium, I don't suppose it's any different at Barca or Real.
Yep they're not even plastics. Day trippers with cash to burn. Much more lucrative than impoverished Ordsall or Weaste youth.
