Javier Mascherano says he tore his anus during Argentina-Holland World Cup semifinal Just when you thought Neymar's broken back was the most disturbing injury of the World Cup, along came Javier Mascherano. Argentina's midfield enforcer got way more than he bargained for when he lunged to block Arjen Robben's potential game-winning shot during Wednesday's scoreless semifinal draw with Holland. Some unforgettable words from Mascherano: "I spread out my anus in that last tackle, that's why I felt so much pain" "I tore my anus," Mascherano told journalists after los Albicelestes prevailed, 4-2, on penalty kicks to advance to their first World Cup final in 24 years. "That's why I was in so much pain. I don't want to sound crude, but that's what happened," he added, according toLa Nacion of Argentina. Mascherano was already playing through an apparent concussion suffered earlier in the match when he knocked heads with Holland's Georginio Wijnaldum, causing him to collapse on the field. That incident alone should've ended his game, according to experts. "With concussions, it could take hours or even days for problems to develop. When in doubt, keep them out â that is the mantra," Michael Kaplen, a New York attorney who specializes in brain injury issues, told The Daily News. Possible health problems are currently of no concern to Mascherano, who's already looking forward to Sunday's final against Germany. "We are facing the game of our lives. We will enjoy it because this only comes once in a lifetime."
Sorry Javier, as your doctor I can safely tell you that the tear in your arris is supposed to be there....
He couldn't win either way - if he hadn't gone for the block then the manager would've torn him a new one anyway.
His deep seated position prevented Robben from penetrating all game. He forced his way in once but Mascherano quickly pushed him out..
