I'm in my mid 50's now. Just wondered if any one else had a taste in music you kept from your mates as it was not cool. This is in the Alvin Stardust, Sweet, Mud era. Out of ear shot I listened to Tangerine Dream and Mike Oldfield (Ommadawn being my favourite)
Cant beat a bit of Russ
As a gobbin', pogoin' bondage trousered, spiky haired, safety pinned punk in the late Seventies I played Dusty's greatest hits as much as the Pistols. There, I've said it. I'm not a gayer.
Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Wishbone Ash, with a liberal scattering of The Rat Pack. Little Ole Wine Drinker in CDCoat somehow worked for me.
Most people think I like indie and trance, however I do enjoy a bit of this when Im on my own and noone can whine at me:
Non of my twenty-something peers believe it was free-basing either
I should probably still keep it to myself now, but "to Heaven" is plagiarism personified...eh Mr Plant & Mr Page ?? Just Herr Pachelbel didn't have the stage moves or the electric wherewithal... Ever listened to these Canucks ? Great Album - the missus danced to "December Angel"....had to keep it under the covers from my mates..
Check out Jukka Talonen a Finn and Isao Tomita from Japan. Tomita's electronic versions of Debussy's work is particularly interesting.
Tomita's stuff was superb. Can't recall Jukka Talonen (sounds Finnish), will check it out. Also love Debussy.
astonishing!!!!! hells fire i am 60 and never heard of syrinx.tomita or jukka. i hate missing out on groovy sounds! as an ex hippy in the early 70s my secret love was soul music. best thing for me on t internet is that most of these groovy beats are available for free! tigerscanada............plant n page ripped off lots of blues singers too.believe they payed up in the 70s or 80s. anyway gonna drop some black microdot and listern to srynx.was yo missus a ballet dancer by the way????
I only like reggae.and ska.. But I have a great love of Beethovans 9th and have had it blasting out on Cassette then CD player on various vespas on the way to scooter rallys in the UK and Europe
I 100% genuine think Biology by Girls Aloud is one of the best songs ever. It is pure hook after hook after hook and if it had been written by The Beatles everyone would **** themselves silly about it. I also have a minor love of Taylor Swift's Shake It Off.
Robbie Williams' I've Been Expecting You album. When my kids were little we used to hide their Christmas presents in the Loft conversion which was the wives home office. I'd go up on the evenings just before Christmas, when they were in bed to wrap stuff. Robbie was the only CD up there in the first HP computer we owned with a CD drive and I couldn't be arsed to trapse down 2 flights of stairs to get something decent. Played it over and over again and loved it. Even now I only play it at Christmas.
