    Does anyone understand this day?
What exactly is it that requires celebration? ... Are dragons real?

Of course dragons are real Dave....When we went to Llanelli on holiday/to visit family, my Dad often went out about 7.00pm to feed the Dragon...my Dad was the official dragon feeder of Llanelli...he always came back smelling of alcohol...no doubt from the dragons breath...mind you that is Welsh dragons...not English

Cheers Finglas! Happy St G's Day to you too! It's not yet quite the same as St Paddy's Day, but it seems to be more celebrated now then when I was growing up.

St George was actually from Malta I believe.. Mind you St Patrick was Welsh wasn't he? Anyway, it's all basically a load of nonsense IMHO, but then I'm not religious. Still, QPR aren't providing many laughs at the moment, so I'll take any excuse for a party!! <ok>

It's said St George was from Turkey or Syria (nobody really knows for sure) and never set foot in England.

As I've said before, a more fitting Saint would be St Alban, who was at least English and is celebrated on 22nd June.

We already have too many holidays in April/May - one at the end of October would be lovely. 29th of October - St Hubbins Day - the patron Saint of Quality Footwear, slayed a dragon in Northampton and shod the local people out of its carcass for the next 16 years.

Good ole Cern started a thread like this on Paddy's Day last year to wind up the Paddies! You gotta love him!

Anyway, on this feast day of the great English Nation, happy Saint George's Day to one and all.

(You too if you're reading Cerny!)
