Todays echo poll, not an easy one to decide. Who is Britain’s greatest ever (of our top 12) sportsman? Bobby Moore Ian Botham Roger Bannister Bobby Charlton Gareth Edwards Bradley Wiggins Steve Redgrave Daley Thompson Henry Cooper Seb Coe Jonny Wilkinson Linford Christie Stanley Matthews ......................................................... Redgrave winning at present. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/sunderland-afc/safc-news
Gotta be Redgrave really, 5 seperate games, add to that a London Marathon which raised a crazy £1.8million for charity. A legend in every way.
I can totally get the Daley chain of thought, he was the very first sportsman that I realized was special, at a very young age just getting into sport! Redgrave for all round achievement in life I guess!
They're surely the 2 stand out names. Daley was awesome in every respect and his sport was much more entertaining - I think his multi-disciplinary talents edge it for me
Wot, no Phil "The Power" Taylor? Top sporting hero surely...? Otherwise Redgrave, if you want someone who can walk upstairs without breathing hard.
What on earth is Seb Coe doing on that list? It is debatable whether he was even the best British middle distance runner of his era, with Steve Ovett challenging him for that honour..
My thoughts too - add to that our own Steve Cram too - further, great sportsmen have great personalities. Seb may well have had a fine pair of legs, however, when it comes to personality, ...put it this way, I'd rather have a beer with just the chair and the table than be in the same room as that smarmy, slimy, tory **** any day of the week.
This...Steve Cram was a top athlete but wasn't at his best until after Coe and Ovett had retired..I always wanted Ovett to beat Coe because of Coe's upperty personna..He was always destined to be a right wing tory peer...
