My father-in-law celebrates his 70th birthday in September and my missus wants to treat him and her mother to a couple of nights away in London. I know there is no shortage of hotels but with the benefit of local knowledge can anyone recommend a good value hotel in central London? Nothing fancy as I am picking up the tab.
I got a good deal £70 a night at a Holiday Inn in W.Ealing through Booking.Com, a good clean room, place, everything you need, but it was a long way out even just getting to the Bush. Never stay in Central London partly because it's normally too expensive, but sometimes you see good deals on sites like Booking. Com
Kerry, we stayed at the Dorsett Hotel on Shepherds Bush Green last year, super hotel, 5 minutes walk from Westfield, easy reach of the tube, buses and overground station and only 10 minutes from HQ. It used to be the old Odeon cinema but has been turned into a 4 star place, excellent breakfasts to set you up for the day, works out about stg£120 per night per room b & b......
Somewhere close to the main sightseeing attractions. They would prefer to walk rather than get the tube.
Not sure you can use the words "reasonable" and "central London" in the same sentence. We stayed here a couple weeks ago and are staying again in November for my good lady's birthday. It's in Covent Garden and right in the heart of theatre land. Good hotel but note that they don't do any meals including breakfast. http://www.thefieldinghotel.co.uk/contact_us.php
Inky stayed at a Premier Inn somewhere around Tower Bridge area last year, said it was fine. There's also a decent Hilton Hotel just off Westminster Bridge and the old County Hall building is now an Ibis hotel if memory serves me right. Both would be within walking distance of the sights.......
Do you have "Pricline" in London. I use it here for hotels and can get 50% off or more by naming my own price and seeing if the Hotels in a certain area accept it. You specify number of stars and area. 999s its great to use here!
Last time I was down we stayed here.... http://www.crownandsceptrepub.com/ No, it's not THE Crown and Sceptre, it's on Holland Road, not far from Olympia, and about 10 minute walk from High Street Kensington tube. Also, not far from the Bush and 5-10 mins from Westfield. It's a small "boutique" hotel, rooms are lovely, staff are nice and price was decent. The bar downstairs did get a bit busy during the evening, but we were out most of the night so it didn't affect us much, but something you may need to bear in mind for a couple in their 70s!!
There's a premier inn at County Hall and a flashy Marriott, good location right next to the London Eye, and South Bank, opposite Houses of Parliament easy walk to Trafalgar Square. Just round the corner next to Lambeth Palace there is a decent Novotel. A couple of years ago I stayed at a good place called the Bermondsey Square Hotel. In my youth Bermondsey was a dangerous dump, but now it's very cool and trendy. Strongly recommend Booking.com Kerry, I use it for all my personal/holiday foreign trips, always has good deals.
Don't use the Bermondsey Square Hotel now unless the lady turns up in a Burka, it was in the news last year as the UK's first 'Sharia' hotel. As for a bacon sarnie... http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/alcohol-pork-off-menu-uks-first-sharia-hotel-opens-business-1475077
Try the Holiday Inn Kensington Forum on the Cromwell Road. As with most of the others suggested, they offer best prices for advanced bookings.
Well that's a change, though breakfast excepted, I wouldn't have recommended eating there anyway, there are loads of really good restaurants around there and Greg Wallace's effort was distinctly average.
This is my usual place to stay when in London, the St. Giles Hotel, situated next to the Tottenham Court Road tube station on Oxford Street. Cheap option when booked in advance through booking.com. Superb location in the West End with walking distance to shopping and easy tube access. http://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/stgileshotel.en-gb.html?label=gen173nr-1DCAEoggJCAlhYSDNiBW5vcmVmaKoBiAEBmAEduAEGyAEM2AED6AEBqAID;sid=c14a4edf64b2569726405f0489e0228b;dcid=12;checkin=2016-06-30;checkout=2016-07-01;dest_id=-2601889;dest_type=city;dist=0;group_adults=2;highlighted_blocks=12873507_87754160_2_0_0;hpos=1;room1=A,A;sb_price_type=total;srfid=baf17e5084f38bc4d2c19853c03e71935b53277fX1;type=total;ucfs=1& Have also used a couple of Premier Inn's in west London, Fulham and Shepherd Bush which have never disapointed, clean and tidy. This one is a bit more pricey but I highly recomend it, great location. https://uk.hotels.com/ho150369/the-...ndon-united-kingdom/?locale=en_GB&pos=HCOM_UK
