Got some massive toadstools on the grass verge outside the house. Some freakish dark brown ones and some lighter, white ones. Expecting the classic fly agarics - red with white spots - to come through soon, as they usually do towards autumn. They grow in an area where a big tree used to be, a mycorrizha between the fungi and the tree's roots obviously occurred, so even though the tree has been cut down the toadstools still appear. Going to try and identify them later if they don't get booted by passing school kids.
The trick is to not be the guinea pig yourself. Give them to someone, if they come back for more you know they are good mushrooms. If you never hear from them again, chances are they are bad.
