I must say that I'm a bit saddened by the speculation a year or so ago that CDs are likely to become a thing of the past -I love my collection. Perhaps I'm getting old but I just think it sums up modern life - the fact that you buy virtual songs and then have to wrestle with the music industry as a means of evercoming license restrictions that state you can only move the song so many times without huge justification/interrogation. Those 400 odd albums are mine and can go on any device I chose. I do, however, love the technology and the fact that I can rip my music and effectively carry my whole collection but could never do so at the expense of actual ownership. Live in the real world and not the virtual one friends! Rant over.
I do empathise with you on that Matt, I went through the same thing in the 80s when CDs effectively replaced vinyl and all those great albums with their covers which were artwork in their own right gradually disappeared. I've over a 1,000 CDs and am currently toying with buying the Brennan JB7 to store and play them all rather than a hard-disk. Technology is making convenience the order of the day methinks...
Lady Eleanor - Lindisfarne Queen Of The Highway - The Doors Just Who Is The 5 O'Clock Hero? - The Jam You Get What You Give - The New Radicals Sing For The Moment - Eminem Creeque Alley - Mamas & Papas Birdhouse In Your Soul - They Might Be Giants Ventura Highway - America Radio Song - REM Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime - Korgis
That's an impressive collection Sooper although I must ask what a Brennan JB7 is? I had a few vinyls and cassettes and there is something to be said for the fact that it wasn't as easy to skip songs so you were more likely to listen to the album as an entity rather than individual songs. I think band spend as much time on the artwork but just don't think it's as effective as a spectacle in miniature. The irony of me posting a lament to the move towards a virtual world on an online forum isn't lost on me either...
