Well, at the moment, the county I live in, Oxfordshire, is slowly but surely disappearing under the rising waters!! If I knew how, I'd post some photos that I took today near where I live.

Any others experiencing this? Anyone's premises flooded?

Staines is flooded by the river walkways and its still rising. Chertsey Bridge is shut as its impassible. Runnymede is seeing it bad, as is Walton and Sunbury. Had our flood warning call at lunchtime to prepare for the worst as we are on a flood plain, but feel pretty confident we won't be affected.Bit scary when the message said 'take small children upstairs to higher ground' :(

Best of luck mate. I know a few people who are flooded. The school where Mrs Rangercol works is getting close too!! Worst here since 2003 and only 6 inches below that level when I checked the marker today!

In Mallow North Cork the council had the foresight to build/install flood defences which stopped the water coming over them but didn't stop the water from going under them and up through the tarmac on the roads and footpaths. Hope everyone gets through tje spell of bad weather all safe and dry.

You're quite right mate. Often the flooding is caused by the water coming up from underneath as opposed to getting through/over defences.

Thanks Col, same to you and yours.
Just read that what's left of the 'Polar Vortex' that's been causing chaos in the US is on its way over. Won't bring the cold but will be wet and windy. Maybe I should get the kids upstairs :)

We had our share in Norfolk before Christmas. We were advised to leave our home by the Police, but stayed put. Fortunately, we got away with it but the mother-in-law, who lives in Salthouse had 4 feet of sea water in her house. We're still trying to dry it it now. The photo is what I was confronted with on the coast road on the way to work the following morning.

Hello rangercol. I'm in the county too and thought it wise yesterday evening to risk the floodwaters that regularly rise when our local river - the Evenlode - bursts it's banks.

I gave it a miss earlier in the day as the kids were on board for the school run. But changed my mind on the way home.

It's the first time I've ever come close to losing the car. Amazingly it stalled half a dozen times. But I managed to start up the engine each time and limped through.

Not really sure how as the engine and lights cut out several times?!

A big misjudgement on my part - the dark didn't help and I only realised how stupid I'd been when I saw the flow of the river running across the front of the car half way through.

A very lucky escape. With no lasting damage to the car. But I learnt a good lesson last night, that's for sure!

    Bloody hell.............that was close.

Yeah, the Evenlode is a trubutary of the Thames isn't it? Starts up in the Cotwsolds and joins The Thames somewhere up around Cassingdon I believe up to the North East of Oxford.
Two of the main routes roads into Oxford were closed today, along with many others around the County.
I live near the Thames which has basically spread out across the County.

Reading has been hit quite bad. The Thames has risen and a lot of roads are closed.

I'm glad I start work at 7am, the normal 8 to 9 am rush must be murder right now.

I'm up by the flood plains in Thame...not seen the floods as high as yesterday in the fields around the A418. And all the edges of Aylesbury are flooding now really badly. The south roads out of Oxford had all closed due to flooding, took me 2hours to even get on a bus out of Oxford tonight...so cold wet and miserable ...another week of it I'm told. Thank goodness I live on a ridge, think my house is ok, touch wood. So good luck Staines and Col...nobody ever explained global warming actually mean cold and very wet weather did they

Really like Thame and the surrounding area, Vern. I was up your way just before Christmas, visiting business just outside the town. Years ago I was dating a young lady that worked at a livery yard near Postcombe. There was a lovely little restaurant in the town we used to frequent which I think was named after a spaniel, but is now an Indian restaurant or something. I drove through the town and saw many ghosts of my past there.
