Or maybe more likely hazard, could be best player in the PL at the moment, on today's evidence most definitely, worth the entrance fee just to see that level of brilliance!

    Bah!

Did Yobo actually play? Nobody apart from you has given him a mention! Nor did the commentator on R5L apart from when he read out the teams. It was as though Bassong played alone in the centre of our defence. <ok>

The Sun have somehow conspired to award Yobo 5/10 for his performance on Saturday <doh>

I thought he had a cracking game personally and looks to be another excellent piece of business

He did, I was very impressed, the commentators on the foreign channel I was watching picked up on it. Had a good match, Yobo and Bassong were key to us getting a point IMO.

I came to the conclusion that Ian Dennis (or whoever the BBC commentator was) couldn't actually distinguish between Bassong and Yobo, so he had Seb doing it all! On the other hand David Pleat, who was summarising, had no problem. The R5L commentaries are becoming a joke; they are so busy saying what's going on all around the country, showing off their "preparation", and advertising their upcoming programmes, the match they are supposed to be comentating on hardly features. <ok>

I thought he was excellent if nothing else because whether it was coincidence or not Bass did not have his normal drops in concentration with the experienced head next to him. That and a clean sheet against Citeh, scarcely believable before kickoff.

    Bah!

Ten clean sheets this season now isn't it? I wonder when we last achieved that in the top flight?

What impressed me was how effective Yobo was without any drama, just quietly getting on with it. Probably the reason for the Sun rating of 5. Whoscored gave him a rating of 6.93 and that was about right, IMO. Olsson and Martin both also performed well in an outstanding back-line performance.

I was not convinced about the Yobo loan, but then I don't watch European football so know little about him in recent years. However, following Saturday, he looks like a good bit of business and maybe, just maybe, what Bassong needs along side him to improve his season. Perhaps a little late to make our goal difference a little easier to swallow, but hopefully it might earn a few draws along the way if we are still failing to make and convert enough chances.

Yobo started the match looking pretty sketchy and I'll admit I feared the worst when he slipped and was helped out massively by Tettey however after that an a few other shaky early moment (which given he hasn't played much recently and has only been at the club about 5 days can be forgiven) he really grew into the game, produced some good block and his positioning was very good. He seems to be quite a good foil for Bassong who seems to have founds some form recently and looks far better. Between Bassong, Yobo and Tettey we were damn hard to break down.

Tony I believe its 9 clean sheets which is joint 4th in the league

10 clean sheets is impressive to be fair. It is such things that surprise me sometimes, with how shambolick we have often looked at the back this season it does again show that Hughton has brought something to the party, not goals, obviously (also 10 games we have failed to trouble the oppo's net in).

    Bah!

Yeah, but when we do concede - we more than make up for it <laugh>

Agreed, though I actually think that Bassong has been getting back to his best since Christmas - he hasn't made a big mistake in a while IIRC. Martin also has improved considerably in the last few weeks.

Could it be the combined form of those infront of them? Johnson has been better this year (2014) than when he first returned to the side following Tettey's injury and obviously we now have Tettey back also picking up where he left off.

    bah!

Over the season the strikers have had enough good scoring opportunities to make our Goals For total more respectable than it is. I haven't kept an exact count of the clear chances fluffed, or the near misses off the woodwork (never mind some excellent goalkeeping), but I would say that, given the chances created, we ought at least to be in the bunch of clubs with GF in the mid-20s rather than among the laggards on 18 or 19. It's the players who have to put the ball in the net. <ok>

Very true Robbie, however have our opponents not also missed chances? Had shots fluffed or saved? Your if, butting or maybeing with that statement. But I still love you and your posts <hug>

Of course the others have missed chances too -- but it's the strikers who miss them! And don't worry, I've a strong stomach and Thai curries don't faze me! <ok>
