I have been sorting out my garden front and back, and I have been thinking about having a raised pond up the top of my garden. My misses also approves. The problem is that the part of the garden which I want the pond to be located happens to be triangular so the shape of the pond itself would need to be triangle. The point of the thread is to hopefully get advice of anybody with building/pond experience.

I want to use breeze block to build and black tarp for liner. I am yet undecided what I will use for the base, I am thinking hardcore with sand to protect the liner. If there is any advice for me I would much appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

My only advice would be to add a feature wall, they look great.

I was thinking of making small steps and putting a fountain in... and I plan on having a cascade too.

I think triangular might pose a problem those liners are quite flexible but if you are going to fit it into the angles it might be quite tricky.Makes the points curved?

Poor people take note, this is what happens when you reach the promised land of the middle class - you spend your days thinking about putting a pond in your garden.

I'm not using a moulded plastic liner you'd find at the garden centre, rather like a sheeting so I can adapt to the curves much easier.

Don't worry I'm with you bro - we're garden stress buddies. I've been stressing over getting one of those automatic robot lawn mowers - my problem is that I don't think it will work in my garden because the garden is too big. Life is tough.

I understand how you feel, people with smaller gardens are lucky, they can mow their garden and go inside without breaking a sweat. Where as we're their wishing the place was bloody tarmacked.

Dig a hole , line it with plastic t , fill it with water .

Stick a water feature in , dig a channel , put a plastic hose in it, add a pump if needed , insulate it , cover it over and plumb it in .

Stop asking stupid f**king questions .

I did the very same years back. Wouldn't put any hardcore under it, likely to burst the liner. Put old carpet remnants or newspapers or anything soft under the liner, they will help keep stones from causing leaks. Breeze blocks will look ugly, buy some old bricks to build it.

Getting deja vu, have we already covered this topic?

Do not use hardcore and sand, the sand will wash away, yes even under the liner, and as already stated puncture the liner. The best way is to create the hole of any shape that fits your needs, then pour concrete into said hole and jump in, adding additional concrete to cover yourself over. You will never have to worry about anything again. Samaritan? I am not.
