****ing hell, the size of that machete that the want to be robber is carrying.

Shop keeper brave or mad? Could have been real nasty, but good on him.

THIS is the terrifying moment a machete-wielding thug demands cash and attacks a shopkeeper, only to be fended off with a stick.

Muhammed Maqsood, known as Max, was confronted by the would-be robber at his convenience store in Eden Vale, Sunderland, and told to hand over money – as reported on sunderlandecho.com during the weekend.

The 63-year-old, who has run Max and Sons for 32 years, was left with an injury to the top of the middle finger on his left hand in the attack, which happened just after 6am on Saturday.

He was hit three times with the blade, but saw off the masked yob after he grabbed a shutter pole and struck him on the shoulder.

CCTV of the ordeal has been released by police as part of their investigation.

Acting Detective Sergeant Nick Lawrance said: “The footage is clearly distressing as it shows the man going in armed with the machete and struggling with the shopkeeper.

“This sort of incident is extremely unusual in the area and I’d like to reassure people we’re doing everything we can to trace the man in the CCTV.

Good on him. Got some balls going up against someone with a machete with a stick!
That guy needs to go down for attempted murder if he's caught. Probably end up charged with aggravated burglary though.

To be convicted of attempted murder the person has to attempt to murder the person and the mens rea (guilty mind - with malice aforethought) for murder must be proved. At no point is that apparent. Its attempted robbery with aggaravtaing factors ie the weapon. If arrested and charged it would be for aggravated robbery and assault which level would depend on the injuries sustained.
