Just happily listening to the Flaming Lips (first time since the last music thread) & friends with their fantastically oddball version of the Dark Side of the Moon album. Highly recommend it to those Pink Floyd fans who also like a bit of psychedelic, sonic mayhem and those that like the latter but not necessarily the former. Does anyone have any personal favourite cover versions? Mine would be:- Jim Hendrix - All along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan) Futureheads - Hounds of Love (Kate Bush) (my other half hates what they did to the song) Gene - Don't Let Me Down (Beatles)
Monkey Man by the Specials Long Shot Kick de Bucket by the Specials Time Hard by the Selecter Police And Thieves by the Clash Hurt by Johnny Cash Dead Souls by Nine Inch Nails Love will tear us apart by Oysterband and June Tabor
1. Another vote for Hendrix's "All along the Watchtower" 2. "Gangster's Paradise" - Coolio (Passtime Paradise - Stevie Wonder) 3. "Che colpa abbiamo noi" - Rokes (Cheryl's goin' home - Bob Lind) 4. "Wish you were here" - Wyclef (Pink Floyd)
Round Here by the Counting Crows You ain't goin' nowhere by the Counting Crows Anything covered by Hendrix - Like a Rolling Stone and Hey Joe stand out after the previously mentioned Watchtower which was equally well covered by U2. I also have a soft spot for Mrs Robinson by The Lemonheads
"Still haven't found what I'm looking for" - Pauline Henry, massively better than the (original by Bonio and his U2)
Second that - Hendrix's versions of Wild Thing, Gloria, Sunshine of Your Love. PLus John Cale's version of Hallelujah (bet that's been posted plenty!)
I'd forgotten about his version of Sunshine of your Love, good call HP. Joe Cocker has produced some magnificent covers, Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word, With a Little Help from My Friends, Just like a Woman, Unchain my Heart and Bye Bye Blackbird. Yes seriously Bye Bye Blackbird with Jimmy Page on guitar, truly magnificent.
Keep thinking of more. Nirvana - Man Who Sold the World (Bowie) Radiohead - Nobody Does it Better (Carly Simon) Placebo - Where is my Mind (Pixies) Oh and the Hendrix version of Day Tripper while we're listing his ones.
From memory The Beatles are the most covered artists, but Dylan can't be far behind. Can I also add Nothing Compares 2 U, Sinead O'Connor covering Prince Thanks for this thread Matt.
Tasty thread Matt, this one could run and run...... Second all the Hendrix stuff I fought the Law, Pressure Drop, Brand New Cadillac - the Clash Stepping Stone, No Fun- Sex Pistols Redemption Song - Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer California Dreaming - Jose Feliciano Hot Burrito No1 - Elvis Costello (recorded as I'm your Toy) Haven't even warmed up yet..... there is a whole album of heavy reggae covers of Dark Side of the Moon called Dub Side of the Moon - outstanding
Alabama 3 - Sad Eyed Lady of the Low Life, Mansion on the hill - though only really the titles are borrowed I love this band
Can someone tell me what song and by whom the Counting Crows borrow in this version of Goodnight Elisabeth?
