That corrupt money grabbing bastard who was never born here and jeopardised regeneration multiple times has resigned after the backlash resulting from pissing off Hammersmith who wanted to do a £1Billion project in the city centre and another project at Park Tawe.

Hopefully the rest of the ****s will go with him. Bet we don't get to choose the next twat in charge!!

Okay, last year a massive company called Hammersmith revealed they had PULLED OUT of a one billion pound city regeneration scheme because every idea they came up with was rejected. They all included restoring the Kingways as a proper two way system, moving the shopping district towards the seafront (David Evans and House of Frasier wanted a beach view... Their only ones in the world!!). The so called boullevard would have been ripped up and turned into a large pedestrianised walkway with large glass fronted office and tech labs either side.

All traffic lights on Kingsway would cease to exist allowing flow down towards the Oystermouth junction which I turn would become a three lane express to a new two laner into Mumbles!! Sounds good yeah?

Where current stores are their would now be a mixture of independent stores, leisure complexes such as indoor ice rinks, music halls for live bands holding thousands and glass fronted towers for living space, each with underground parking. High street would have become a new business hub in conjunction with the University with students allowed free rent to start up new businesses based upon research discoveries found at the Fabian Way campus and labs.

Castle Square was to become a mixed grass and quarry stone open air amphitheatre!!! Showcasing local bands during the nights and live arts performances during the day, as well as lobbying groups. The quarry stone wall would hide McDonalds out of site (overdue lol).

These were deemed non negotiable by Hammersmith... Strangely enough everything we want but something our corrupt council said was unacceptable!!

This company already owns Park Tawe, it was to be totally ripped down and redone, the design pictures looked lovely!! Rejected on condition!!! WTF?!?!

Why did our council say no to this? Well the company have slated them and the last few days there has been chaos in the council and the big man has gone, a lot more in senior positions are expected to go as well! About time!!

Are these people for real. Have they actually walked around the city centre in the last 10 years?

I laugh how they say they want him to remain onboard here, he is a typical councillor from a far away land... he'll be out of here and placed somewhere this news won't reach. These positions should decided by the people, instead we have to vote for the person the party selects!

We need someone born and raised here, who feels for the area and it's people.

Thanks for filling me in guys <ok> Hasn't Swansea Council always been corrupt? I thought the Kingsway and the bendy bus fiasco was all down to back handers.

Sad thing is the city has massive potential. All ruined by small minded councilors looking for the next brown envelope.

At one end of Swansea bay we have Mumbles, picturesque, jam packed with shoppers and tourists. At the other end we have what? nothing really. If we had two nice areas either end of the bay with easy transport between (maybe even reinstate the worlds oldest mass transit system - the Mumbles tram) the City would be transformed. Instead, what have the councilors done in the last 10 years? Bendy buses and a ruined road system.

Ye that's for sure bring back the Mumbles Train I loved going on that it was easy to get on and you went from Swansea all the way to the mumbles. We need the train back it sure was a tourist attraction and im sure it would be easy for people to get around as we all know the parking is a big problem in Mumbles

I'm less convinced about the corruption allegation, but am totally convinced on incompetence because the evidence is there for all to see.

We've got a train - it's got rubber wheels and only runs in the summer. <doh>

Swansea City Centre is a complete disaster and always has been. The 50's buildings were thrown up after the War and are a blight on the area imo. The Council would rather see shops empty rather than offer rates reductions to new businesses for a period - business rates in the centre are ridiculous. We're talking thousands per month in some cases.

It's a Council that prioritises traffic management above everything else and they even get that horribly wrong. Everyone you speak to want the return of the tram but as usual the public never gets what it wants. Democracy is an illusion I'm afraid.

    Small minded? Maybe.
Corrupt? No evidence provided and it seems a bit unwise to label a local individual as such on a public forum.

Thanks for that Project. Given the redevelopment around the marina etc, if the centre gets sorted Swansea could become on of the most attractive pulling cities in Britain.

Sorry to say but it won't happen in my lifetime , a history of incompetence complacency and pure arrogance on the part of elected minority has dragged this City to probably one of it's lowest periods since the War .At least after that there was strategy in what was needed all we see now and have experienced are ideas implemented without the foresight intelligence to see what has been forced upon us has not worked , bendy fugging buses passing each other on roads not designed to accommodate them .If they were HGVs there would an outcry by the residents complaining about the constant stream of the bloody things .They removed a perfectly good under pass at the bottom of Wind street (common sense would tell you that to prevent accidents one way is to keep traffic and pedestrians as far apart as possible ) and have replaced it with crossing which now has the length of a runway. The idea of the Boulevard was to open up access between the centre and the marina but all it's done is to add yet more concrete to a city overwhelmed with it already with the replacement of Castle gardens which now looks like a scene from a grainy 1960's film .Shoot the Fugging lot of them

The welsh assembly and the guys in London Westminster are the real villains....your blaming the wrong people. Swansea council don't have the money to please everyone and have less money with all the forced cut backs from higher up. They are the ones on the front line and take all the blame for everything and in reality their hands are tied and are trying to maintain standards which is impossible to do...
