Premature Iâm afraid Bill. Theyâve got 2 guaranteed Gold tonight so youâll not hear me goading them as weâve got 3! Theyâll end up with around with around 6/8 but still not as well as they should given the money theyâve spent on a population of 22M. Funding blamed for Aus Olympic disappointment They may have their second gold of the Games, but the post-mortem into Australia's campaign is underway. Olympics reporter Rikki Swannell says for the powers that be, Australia's poor showing to date is no laughing matter. An independent review into the swimming team's supposed failure has already been ordered, with its flagship squad producing its lowest medal haul in 20 years. They ended up with 10, including just one relay gold. IOC member Kevin Gosper is blaming a lack of government funding. http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/news/trn-irs-oly-aussiesvox-214258253.html
Kiwi, I just love it, was working in Melbourne during the Barcelona games. And had to listen to the **** they were ALL dishing out to us poms, event by event, second by second. Never let up on us, so If you dont mind, just let me revel in the moment. Might not happen again in my lifetime. anyway **** em.
As I live in Oz, I can tell you that its all pretty quite here...it may be because the games are on through the night...but I think that it may have something to do with the fact that the POMS are kicking their a**ses. For some reason they seemed to have built up every Aussie, as a world beater, ignoring what other countries have, then when the don't win gold, they are disappointed. Don't get me wrong I like to see the Aussie's do well but only if they aren't beating team GB.
As NZ did after Los Angeles. I'll get back to you next week Oi as your keepers say. NZ's a much friendlier place to visitors
An ever abiding memory for me is Prime Minister John Howard's face when he presented England with the Rugby world cup in '03. Some Aussies didn't like it either. Letters To The Dailies: John Howard's Unsportsmanlike Conduct At The Rugby World Cup 24 November 2003 See also: Annabel Crabb, Doug Conway: PM defends 'sullen mood' at medal presentation Hui-chang Wang Letter to The Age On Saturday night, I was appalled that John Howard made what was possibly the most graceless awards presentation in sporting history. Our mean-spirited Prime Minister was unable to raise a single smile for the triumphant English Rugby World Cup team as he was handing out their medals. Is this the man best suited to represent our country in front of millions of viewers all over the world? His shameful behaviour lacked the dignity that his office is supposed to represent - and was, frankly, embarrassing for the rest of the Australian community. Yes, we were all disappointed by Australia's loss in a marvellous, close-fought contest. But in the end the best team on the day won and there is no excuse for Mr Howard's grim demeanour on such a public occasion. During the opening of the Australian War Memorial in London on Remembrance Day earlier this month, Mr Howard declared that England and Australia "are tied for all time by our history". If he really believes this, then his petulant schoolboy behaviour is a strange way of showing it. Mr Howard, is this the model for sporting behaviour which you wish to project to the young children of Australia? And is this behaviour a reflection of the way in which you run this country? If you cannot raise a smile for a rugby team, what hope do you have of extending a helping hand to those who are less fortunate than ourselves in this lucky country: the homeless, the dispossessed, and the refugees who are fleeing conflicts in which our country has been a willing aggressor? There is a whole page of them on Google, and God bless those Aussies that wrote in a similar vein. Just been announced on the news that they are changing their traditional colurs to green and silver now.
Heeeeeeeeello!!! I'll say this though... the Aussie media are ****ed. Yes, we havent done as well as we normally do. But the media are writing off silver medals as a disaster, commit hari-kari senario. They won a ****in sliver medal ffs! That sorta **** should be praised! Those who can, compete. Those who can't, commentate. Says it all really. Im proud of the brits this year. Even you poms! Has been a fantastic marvel, and it's great to see GB get up. Gutted the Aussies arent doing so well in the gold medals, but 2 gold, 12 silver and a host of bronze is still a fantastic achievement regardless of what people say.
Unfortunately Oz, has not progressed from them holding the Olympics, they seem to have taken it for granted. I expect our olympic commitee and future governments, to build on what our athletes have acchieved, and take us to the next stage.
