Turned on Levante v Barcelona after 46 minutes and the game was 0-0. Within 16 minutes Barca go 4-0 up with 4 world class goals. Not a great fan of Messi, but this bloke is unplayable. Also Barca have had a whopping 80% possession.

This generation of Barcelona is the best team in the world ever and Messi is the best player in the world ever. Some might say that the Brazilians with Pele in were the best.

Well Messi sure is on his way!

Pele scored like over 1000 goals.....but then his career lasted 20 years.

Messi has scored 210 or something at senior level and he is only 25.

Allthough if Messi hadnt had HGH growing up, he wouldnt have even been able to play football.

Pele never played in Europe and many of his goals were against second-raters. That's why I'd always rate Maradona above him. Messi has the potential to top the pair of them but needs to win a World Cup with the Argies.

The Milan side of the early 90s would have beaten Barca, imho. Simply because they had a brilliant defence as well as a potent attack. That really would have been a battle of Titans...

Agreed Sooperhoop! The likes of Rossi, Costacurta, Maldini, Baresi, Gullit, Rijkaard and Van Basten.

Pele got 1,097 goals in 1,227 games in 22 years.
Messi has 279 goals in 349 games in in 9 years.

I wonder how Pele would have faired in Europe and the Champions League.

QPR 75/76 for me. Everyday. Messi still dreams of being like Stan Bowles. Trouble is.... no one can.

Messi is as good as Maradona was when he was at his best on drugs.
If the Argies dont win the world cup with Messi in the team then it is just one of them things. Spain have been the best team for quite a few years now.
The Milan side of the early 90's was very good but the Barca side of today would still have over 70% possession against them and be slightly stronger.

    Indeed they are!

He had "Human Growth Hormone" when he was a child, as he would have only been about 4ft 7 without it, as he had some growth disorder....Barcelona paid for the whole treatment.

Not when you're buying trousers - kids sizes are much cheaper. ;)

Messi is the best I've seen in my lifetime - makes the difficult look effortless and his goalscoring record in the last 3-4 years is breathtaking.

Not for me. I still think the Ajax teams of the 70s/90s and Saachi's Milan were better,

As good as Messi is I don't think he'd be as good without his teammates as his record at International Level proves. He has played with pretty much the same players/setup since he was 8 so the chemistry is unrivalled

So DL does this make CR better than Messi. CR has scored 165 in 164 games for Real Madrid and is in his 4th season.

I think Messi is a better footballer but Ronaldo is a better player if that makes sense?

My reasoning is similar to the Henry v Van Nistelrooy argument. Henry undoubtedly the better footballer but played in a team built around him. Left Arsenal at 29 and was rubbish. RVN has a great scoring record (not as technically gifted as Henry), left United at 30 and still scored goals at Real Madrid for fun.

I still think RVN was one of the most underrated strikers to ever play in the PL, his ability to read the game and make the right runs was unrivalled IMO, moreso than Shearer.

As good as Messi is I'm willing to put a wager on the fact that if he left Barca tomorrow he wouldn't be near as good or as effective whereas Ronaldo would if he left Real.

It's hard to compare players in different eras and positions, has there been a better defender than Bobby Moore? Messi v Moore would've been great to see.
Holland with their total football of the early 70's or Brazil from any era are probably joint top for teams for me
