Firstly I admit to being a smoker and have smoked for close on 30 years and although I do not consider myself to be a heavy smoker (less than 20 a day) I understand the personal health risks I am taking every time I light up. I never smoke indoors or in the car so I am used to just popping outside for a crafty *** in all weathers. As a Smoker I welcomed the introduction of the smoking ban inside all public premises as it is not fair on non-smokers to be inflicted with secondary smoke in a confined space. I also accept that I must also pay a high cost through TAX on cigarettes to fund any NHS medical treatment for any future smoking related illnesses that I may contract. Sounds fair enough doesn't it?

I do however strongly object to the latest call by the Health Nazi's to ban all smoking from public outside areas such as public Parks, Beaches, Visitor Attractions and other areas where the public tend to congregate. I knew that we would eventually get round to this so my feeling is one of being persecuted for indulging in what is still a legal activity! Smokers have to now buy their cigarettes from locked up counters and soon in plain packaging. So why doesn't the Government just come out and BAN Smoking all together?

We all know the answer to that question don't we!

I am fed up with the Nannying from all these do gooders who want to ban anything that gives pleasure. Any more restrictions on Smoking will be a step too far!

They have done the job of alienating smokers
They are still working on people who drink
Mark my words, the next in line will be fat people

Soon you won't be able to fart without an environment certificate

What the politicians and Health Nazi Do Gooders wont admit is that Smoking provides huge TAX revenues for the Government which far, far outwiegh any so called drain on NHS resources. I am just sick to death of being told how to live my life by all these liberal Guardian reading ****ers who all go private for their health in any case!

I do not smoke but i did smoke from the age of 15 - 41, it got that i was on two packets a day, decided to give up when i was 40 but never happened, managed to do so, to the disbelief of all who knew me, on 25th June 2011 and have not had one puff/drag on a cigarette since! Now i dont particularly like the smell of stale smoke but still like the smell of a lit cigarette.
Do i think smoking should be banned from outdoor public places, do i feck, it shouldn't even be banned from pubs, clubs and bars!!

<applause> Respect to you for giving it up Spanish!

The best cigarettes are the first one of the day, the one after a meal and with a glass of wine and the last one at night. All the rest I can do without! <laugh> Watching Ipswich games down the years I need to get through a packet afterwards!

I don't smoke but I think the smoking ban in pubs should be optional and at the discretion of the landlord as long as it is labeled as a smoking pub what's the problem.....the smell of smoke did cover the smell of stale beer and piss quite effectively..

I don't smoke but banning smoking everywhere is beyond pathetic. A bit of common sense needs to happen.

The total smoking ban in pubs ( I say total, Mps are STILL allowed to smoke in a pub in downing street - typical w***ers.... ) has done NOTHING for pubs and resulted in the industry being a mess. Why there wasn't a choice was beyond a joke. I loved Whetherspoons banning smoking in their pubs, having their loyal customers then being total a**holes banning it in other places as they knew it would ruin competition.

What is wrong with the fans that some European countries like Sweden have, or air ventelated rooms with WARNING signs?

At Hamburg Airport they have special ventilated cubicles where you can go to light up and I have seen others at Oslo, Amsterdam, Stockholm and Copenhagen on recent business travels. Our ****ing Authorities are now so Anal that you have to smoke in a special designated area outside Gatwick airport. It is not beyond the wit of man to introduce these cubicles at Gatwick and Heathrow but they just want to inconvenience and persecute us poor smokers even more!

    Yeah a total joke Warkie.

Same with work places, got rid of the smoking room so now companies have smokers outside the office puffing away which looks shocking.

That said, one main gripe I have about smokers is how they seem to be entitled to breaks all over the shop at work. My old manager went for three *** breaks a day, which doesn't sound like much. I worked out it was 10 minutes per time, so 30 minutes per day............ I think I worked out over the course of a year she had basically given herself an extra three weeks off which made my blood boil. So in the end everytime she popped outside I'd simply stop working and do nothing.

You may have alluded to it there Warky <ok>

I can't see it happening, though would consider it a positive step to ban smoking, as much as that probably won't sit well with some on here

I've never really smoked (cigarettes) though enjoy the very rare cigar if I'm feeling like billy big bollocks, but from a health perspective it is a no brainer that those who don't inhale smoke (be that secondary) are a lot healthier for it... but that's me who's never been hooked on it but have seen people who have struggled with the implications smoking has.

If the govt banned smoking KOPR they would lose Billions of pounds overnight in TAX revenues which could starve the NHS of funding so a ban is totally out of the question. My main point is about civil liberties of the individual. If you are partaking of a perfectly lawful activity then you should be left alone to get on with it. I'm fed up with health Nazis telling me what to do!

I'm far more concerned about E cigarettes at the moment - being allowed to be on display, advertised - all the things that cigarettes aren't.

I'm all for legalising drugs so i'm definitely not in favour of banning smoking altogether, it would just drive cigarettes underground, but it is annoying when you walk down the street behind someone smoking or people that ignore it in places like bus stops and station platforms, theyre open but still enclosed. Public parks, beaches and visitor attractions - there are kids around so yes ban it there - but don't ban it everywhere. Start treating cigarettes and alcohol the way people think about other drugs - do it at home or in private but not when there are kids around. If youre addicted to cigarettes and you cant control yourself for an hour or two while youre at the park or the beach then look at whether and why you want to be smoking I reckon.

I smoke (although not much these days) and I'm partial to a fart once in a while.

Other than the obvious explosive dangers, I fail to see how smoking and/or farting outside harms anyone. I'm more concerned about vapists sucking on their sonic screwdrivers full of mystery liquid indoors and the unknown passive dangers.

    Smoking and farting is fi...

I'm an ex-smoker, and have now gone on to the mystical demon that is vaping. I admit that they are an unknown entity, and the damage they could possibly cause, but surely that could imply to a lot of substances we put in our bodies. I mean, how many of you REALLY know what you're eating when you pop to a kebab shop after a few bevvies?
For me, smoking will possibly give you cancer, and will probably cut your life shorter than without smoking - BUT, i still believe it's all down to your lifestyle. Now, my granddad, bless him, is in his late 80's and has smoked 40-60 Rothmans a day for nigh on 70 years, as well as half a bottle of whisky a day, and he's still going strong (i agree this has feck all to do with the OT, but who cares)
So, as i said, i'm now on the vape, and i gotta say, i love it...in fact, i can't think of a better pleasure than sitting on the ****ter whilst puffing on a Heavenly vanilla custard vape - is it worse than cigarettes? I've no idea, is it gonna kill me? I've no idea - do i care? Not really.

Oh, and smoking should NOT be banned in public places, in fact, they should bring it back on the top deck of a bus!
