The Humber hovercraft service... please log in to view this image It ran from the Minerva slipway to Grimsby and only operated between February and October 1969, or rather it didn't operate most of the time, as it kept breaking down, hence the service only lasting eight months. I vaguely remember seeing it as a kid, but I never actually went on it(probably because it only went to Grimsby), did anyone on here actually use it?
My grandparents used it a couple of times, it's a story I used to hear everytime we drove over the Humber Bridge when I was young!
Yes do remember it - as you say OLM it only lasted 6 months I think because it kept hitting sandbanks. Anything had to be better however than the old paddle steamers.
I never went on it, but I remember watching it arrive at Minerva slip way, and went for a pint in the Oberon afterwards.
I vaguely remember the hovercraft but never went on it. The old paddle steamers always got you there - I remember going to see Grimsby v City on one once. Am still an occasional visitor to the Tattershall Castle now anchored just next to Hungerford Bridge. Nice venue specially in the summer but the beers only average, better for lager drinkers.
