At the risk of starting WWXX5 I could do with some advice. Now this will probably come as a complete shock to you all but I'm ****ing useless at diy. Anywho, I have spent 3 hours putting up an outside light to the connection put in by house builders. The ****er doesn't work. I thought I'd check the light switch before taking light down and the swirltch has 2 Brown (neutral) wires connected.to terminals and the blue wires are in one of those clear blocks. Anyone give me a clue before I rip it.off the wall. By the way, no.racism intended with Brown wire, it is Brown. Cheers APM
The colour of the wires don't tell you much, it depends on how your house is wired(a house circuit is not like a plug, you don't get a live, neutral, earth set up). Have you got an electrical screwdriver? You need to find out which wire is live before you can sort anything. In a previous life, I was a TV repair man, I'm actually qualified in this ****.
You need to lick your fingers stand in a bucket of water and place fingers across the terminals. Your welcome
Brown is live and Blue is neutral btw... You tried turning it on?? You sure its connected to your main distribution box?
You not tried looking on you tube, guys on there tend to do a step by step video guide, Hope this helps
Wait Payton! DO NOT FORGET to put a dry sponge inside a cullender (spelling?) on your head before doing this. Make sure the cullender is wired to the live wire.
The switch is earthed. It ha a brown wire going to the top terminal, and one to the bottom terminal that is live. It has 2 blue wires in that clear box thing. I fear it may.be my installation of the light fitting. It was a bastard. You twat chazz, that didn't half sting
Hooray, I light hearted thread. No idea mate on your electrical problem. Best of luck. Get the Wife to take a look.
Vic, the wife is busy washing up in the dark cos I've turned the elastic-trickery off. I may be in the chien house for a while
Your all welcome at my house mate. Take you about 20mins tops, from yours. Just don't touch me lights
