Usually within a few hours. The words "low aspiration" got a mention more than once.

He's a terrible terrible advert for this city given his 'past'.

Collectively we need to move out of the mindset that anyone who rubbishes Hull is wrong and any criticisms are there invalid.

There are stacks of things wrong with Hull, and those of us who live here know that more than most.

What irks is when folk have a go as a cheap shot or an easy sneering laugh, for those who've never been and already have a blinkered view about the North or whatever.

If someone makes valid informed observations pinpointing faults/defects/problems and even better proposing solutions, then that's worth hearing.

This COC is also a bit of a pat on the head and a leg-up for a place that deserves better - not some kind of rubber stamp of approval to say this city is fantastically buzzing and everyone who lives there is talented and interesting.

No one is saying that the criticism is always wrong, but I have been around a bit and you can level the same criticism at 95% of the cities around the world let alone the UK. I am afraid Hull people have this inbred notion that Hull is crap and alwaysput the city down. Well I can assure you that there are lots of cities not only in the UK but worldwide that are much crapper than here. Yes we have our problems but so do a lot of other cities. We don't have the gun crime or the knife crime that other cities have, Manchester and Nottingham spring to mind here. Poverty, crikey we don't know the meaning of the word. Just go to Rio in Brazil, you will see swanky apartment blocks next to houses constructed out of hardboard. Cape Town in South Africa, stay in the tourist area, if you move one block out of it you take your life in your hands. It really pisses me off these pricks from London putting MYcity down, when actually they are living in the biggest cesspool in the UK, and have never ventured further than M25 corridor. Rant over

merchantman5 is spot on: my problem with Hull is everyone (rightly) has a go at the council, but come voting time only 30% turn out and vote! then they complain about the. Council again. If they got off their arses and voted they could have a change.
