Airman Brown posted this on CL this afternoon: "Personally as of today I would be happy to start and end the season with the current manager, the current squad and finish 21st. However, that isn't living within our means, it will require funding," for those who don't know Airman Brown is Rick Everitt who ran the Back To The Valley campaign and did the Voice of the Valley fanzine, he is Head of Club Development at CAFC, and is the man in charge of selling match tickets (setting pricing etc), you ostriches need to wake up, everything people like me have been saying for the past fortnight isn't rumours or scaremongering, it is stuff that is coming direct from club executives like Rick Everitt, it's not a case of moaning as there haven't been ten new signings, it's a case of our current reality of potentially having to sell the likes of Solly so as not to go bust, read Rick's quote again, get an adult to explain it to you if you don't understand it, Charlton Athletic FC are up to their eyeballs in the brown stuff
It's people like you who don't care about the club going under that are Millwall in disguise, we should be organising to save the club, but unfortunately there are too many delusional idiots who just want to pretend everything is fine, when will you realise it isn't, when Solly goes next week, when Kermorgant goes the week after, or will you continue thinking everything is fine as the club goes to the wall, you ostriches are part of the problem, how dare you call yourselves Charlton fans when you are happy to sit by and watch the club die, shame on you.
How predictable! A poster immediately backs up what I first said on this thread... No, I'm concerned about the club, as are loads of others out there.
I'll believe it when I see it. Someone inside the club once said "done deal" on the Zabeel takeover and we all know what happened there. You say you have sources fair enough but not all of us will believe these doom and gloom stories until anything actually happens. If Solly or Kermo are sold then yes I will be as worried as anyone as to what's going on but while the club's actions so far are contrasting in improved contracts being handed out, £1m invested in the academy and bidding £500k min for players then that's about all we can go on and just because not everyone byes into the talk of a crisis or makes 10 posts a day about it doesn't mean they should be branded an ostrich at least respect other's opinions.
Rick Everitt/Airman Brown posts often read like an old woman. That's assuming that you have quoted directly from CL, of which I have no reason to doubt. Doubt a sale of Solly would raise enough funds to 'save' a Championship club, but if that's what happens, then that's what happens. I guess I just have low expectations this year. Reckon Charlton Athletic will still be around at the start of the 2013-14 season and that's good enough for me. I've mentioned my reasons before for being happy with that.
You people all seem more concerned with an "I told you so" rather than the state of the actual club. It's like you'd be happy if the club went bust. Disgraceful.
What another crass point.I am extremely worried at what is happening at the club and our postings have been treated with disdain. What is wrong with you people don't you want to know the TRUTH?Rick Everitt has come out, much to the detriment of himself, and all we get is:its like you'd be happy if the club went bust.NO I would not be happy as i have spent 51 years of my life supporting Charlton.
Then please explain why everybody (Or nearly everybody) who has been posting how the club is in danger, has done so in such a condescending/insulting way instead of just respecting the fact that some people like evidence?
You have been given plenty of evidence, you're either stupid or on the people killing the club's payroll, there is a demo against Jiminez being organised for Welling next week, don't bother attending, just stick your stupid ostrich head back in the dirt and leave things to those of us who care about the club, you sad plastic.
What gives you the right to call anyone stupid? Or insult them just cos they don't agree with you? This topic will go on and on until both sides are blue in the face, but make of the 'evidence' as you will. It's a bit like visiting a tarot card reader or anyone who says they can predict the future, many will see what they want to see. I suppose the same could be said for me as I write this, but quite frankly these threads are moving away from topic and generally turn into bitching contents which undermine this forum. Do I believe there are problems? Nope as I have not heard anything that worries me and these people who have sources, we all have 'sources' some choose not to declare them and I don't necessarily believe all that I read. Let's all enjoy the lovely weather and take a chill pill as this is doing my head in. This is what we should be concentrating on! I haven't posted much on here recently as its been a very quiet summer and I haven't had anything meaningful to contribute. But having read this thread and the one on CL I feel compelled to put forward my opinion. CharltonNutNut, I find it disgraceful that you feel the need to resort to personal insults in referring to someone as a plastic/stupid simply because they are unwilling to believe in something until they've been given sufficient evidence to do so. Look at everything you do in day to day life and you will see that your doing so is based upon evidence: you use an iron to iron your shirt as you have empirical evidence that such an item does said job; you choose to go one route to work rather than another as you have sufficient evidence to suggest it is the better route etc. To suggest somebody is stupid because they wish for evidence before coming to a conclusion is downright offensive and illogical. All we have so far is a series of posts on Charlton Life. One single post by someone who works within the club, followed by guesswork, then conclusions and 'summaries' based upon that guesswork. Yes its worrying that someone from within the club posted such a comment, but often peoples 'sources' are way off the mark. Take for instance DickPlum. No offence Dick, but last year you posted saying how two 'marquee signings' were to sign in January, but to no avail. Three weeks ago you posted that we should expect a handful of signings in the next 10 days. You also posted that there would be two signings, one of whom would be for the future, the other we'd be underwhelmed by. None of these happened. I'm sure you do have sources at the club, perhaps very high up, and you seem more 'in the know' than quite possibly anybody else on this forum. Yet these sources often get things wrong. CharltonNutNut, having read just about all of the posts on the CL thread, I see nothing to suggest that a 'demo against Jiminez' is to happen at Welling, other than a few posts suggesting it which were quickly dismissed. Its also intriguing (as many before have said) that amidst this apparent crisis we are in, the club have employed about 8 new staff for the youth development team, extended a number of players contracts and (if the likes of Rich Cawley are to be believed) bid a fair amount of money for a number of players. Time will tell I guess, but in the meantime it would be nice if everyone could refrain from bickering. There's a very pleasant atmosphere on this board and has been since it was created, let's keep it that way. Its cliched to say it, but we all want what's best for the club.
I read Not606 everyday and post now and then (not for a while) but I have found this whole thread completely ridiculous, nobody knows what is happening within the club but from what we can see the club is spending money, this surely suggests that we aren't in any money trouble!? I'm not a financial expert but I'm sure that one of the first thing a "struggling business" does is cuts its costs, we seem to be adding to are wage bill and seeking further employment through players & staff so surely we are in a sound money position. I'm sure a decent signing would silence everybody that doubts the board and the money they own, but for goodness sake GET BEHIND THE CLUB!!!!
Oh Rick Everitt I always found his posts more cryptic than fact. If he wants to come out and make claims, then "be a man" and discuss it in full. Please understand my hesitation when it comes to this man, I've witnessed first hand the **** he can talk (sorry if any of our members are friends/associates of him). As for the two sides and who is right - i still don't think either side has the claim to say "I told you so". 2 weeks ago it was doom, last week the noises were it wasn't that bad, and now back again to everything's bad. This suggests to me that very, very few people know/understand the situation. Certainly not the amount of people claiming to know. Players leaving- yes I did hear that could be the case 2 weeks ago (to which I told a fellow member in confidence). But I was of understanding it was more down to a significant profit than "having to". Which I think we all was aware that this is how the board would handle such situations? It's never dull being a CAFC fan!
WWOCB Thank you. Fantastic post. Instinct tells me that there is something wrong at the club. It may be that they are adopting a 'business as usual' stance (to avoid the downward spiral that early rumours create) whilst searching for new investment to fill a big funding gap. Or it may just be that money's tight, but fundamentally we're fine. No-one knows for sure. However, until there's something that we as fans can do or respond to, surely we need to stay united at this moment and treat each other with respect. Am I stupid? No. Am I a plastic? More plastic than some but less than others- so what? If we are in real trouble, then we'll know soon enough. These things don't stay quite for long. Fingers crossed.
Morning SuperC - I see we're both up bright and early today...ugh! You're right, why would we not sell a player if that sale would ensure firstly that we'd be able to adequately replace them and strengthen the squad and secondly add to the club's financial stability? This record-breaking squad was assembled last season on the sale of one player. We know that there's more than significant interest in Rhoys Wiggins and Chris Solly from Premiership clubs and tempting though it is to believe that they'll be with us for ever, it would take superhuman resolve on the part of the board not to be at least tempted to cash in.
