What was the crowd Taff? Was in Plough didn't know there was a game on.No Osprey fans in or around pub.
So much for not being live on free tv for enlarging the crowd, best they start playing some attractive rugby that may get a few fans there. That is a poor crowd for first game of the season. Are we the worst supported region or are the rest as bad.
You need crowds for atmosphere - compare, for example, the atmosphere at The Liberty for the Scarlets match on a Boxing Day in front of 19,000 with that against Zebre on a wet Friday in front of 4,500 hardy souls That said, financially I would agree - income from fans does not make much difference: TV, Competition & Commercial income are all higher.
The thing is Munster made 11 changes as well but they played like a well drilled team and were clinical.
I wasn't trying to be overly critical, it just highlights where the Irish provinces are compared to us. Which begs the question, can the Ospreys afford to make that many changes and be competitive over the season?
The Irish Provinces receive considerably more funding from their Union than the Welsh Regions receive. As such, they can field 2 very competitive sides whereas the Ospreys need their 1st XV on the field to be up to the mark.
Who ever travelled for that game should be reimbursed as that was not the side they were expecting to see play.....You expect a couple of changes but to go into the game with a team expecting to lose is not acceptable in my book...Shame on my team for doing that.....
to be fair the backs looked like the worst set of backs I have seen since the ospreys started, if that is what going to be available to us come international time, it is going to be a very long season and a place in the challenge cup again next season.
I will never understand the mentality of why any team would not play their best side in any game.....We know how good these irish sides are on home turf as they are away and you would expect that our coaches would be up for this and would have fielded the best side possible and pit their wits against the best sides or how the hell can we determine if we have improved from last season which we needed too......We know nothing from that game other than the coaches are a bunch of pussies...
I was reading that this morning. It's great that the technology exists and hopefully it will give some valuable insight into the problems. I'm not sure how they can implement further safeguards without dumbing down the actual game itself, it's mostly a contact sport after all. Time will tell.
