http://www.thefa.com/England/News/2012/sweden-squad-announcement-081112.aspx About time too. Baines and Jags also involved.
Made up for him, well deserved too. Totally underated by the less knowledgable portion of our fanbase
It's a strange one isn't it? He's fairly well acknowledged on the whole outside of Everton, yet there's the usual (you know the sort) suspects in our own support that can't see what he brings.
Most are either young lads who don't know what they're talking about & mainly non match goers at that mate. I've never heard anyone slate him who sits near me, but if you read most of the EFC forums he's had dogs abuse over the years. If he was 6" taller & was blessed with a tad more pace, he'd have been genuine top, top drawer.
Haven't heard many criticise him when I've been the match either, or at least not in the same way Neville or Hibbert gets stick. Can only assume that because he was a bit of a late bloomer and didn't hit the ground until he was about 24 that he's been penned in with the average to **** players, even though he's certainly good enough for us at the moment. Aye, always said if he had pace he'd be top drawer. International football would suit him down a tee though.
Not convinced he'll be International class but he certainly deserves his chance. I think players who come through at 'less fashionable' (not in the champions league) and stay there tend to slip under the radar of alot of fans who assume they must be average. I like Osman and, given that most international games are against dross, he would be a good squad player but i wouldn't be aiming to play him in a World Cup match against a top 20 ranked nation.
Probably the best England player on the pitch tonight. Beines ahead a great game too and I doubt Jagielka as much to worry about with that defensive display.
He played well, controlled the ball well, got into some great positions (without being spotted by a team mate at times) & looked comfortable in an England shirt. I thought he did more than the overated Cleverly & the ring rusty Wilshere.
