Arsenal are considering a shock move for Manchester United's John O'Shea.

The Gunners are shopping around for defensive cover as they are on the verge of selling Gael Clichy to Manchester City for £7million.

Bolton's Gary Cahill remains top of Arsenal's wish list, but it is not yet clear if Arsene Wenger will shell out £17m.

Versatile O'Shea, 30, was told this summer that he can leave United after 12 years

Arsenal fans will be outraged if they are seen to be buying ex Man Utd players, released by SAF as surplus to them.

Cant see this happening. My fear is that Everton, or Blackburn come calling (to replace Samba) and he opts to stay in the NW before we get him up here.

Dunno they did the same with Silvestre for cover. O'shea is 30 year old now, would he rather spend the last few year's of his career on their bench, or play for us? If it's the former, then he isn't the sort of player we want anyway.

I think when the news of the moves for the man u players was first broken, it was suggested that SAF would prefer the deal to be done with Bruce and Sunderland, rather than a genuine competitor ie Arsenal. IMO O'Shea would walk into Arsenal's back four

I have to agree with cest, the 'Arsenal fans would not take kindly to them buying a manure cast-off'. He's a free agent and he' ll go where the money is, though we have agent Bruce and Saffy is by all accounts persuasive ** cough

Then who is deciding between us and Celtic? If Tottenham offer ten thousand more a week do you think he will have some say how it turns out?

He will have a say but I would think that the choice will only be between clubs that have had offers accepted by Man U. Given that the bid for all 3 was supposedly £12m and we know £5m is Gibson I would guess O'Shea will be value at £4-5m.
