So, as Nick Higgs and the other directors wake up this morning hoping it was all a bad dream, and then realize it wasn't, what should they do ?
They must feel like chucking the towel in. Should Higgs and/or the other directors go?
I say no. I don't blame them for appointing Buckle. He looked like a good candidate and talks the talk. They've backed him to the hilt. I think they've kept our club afloat and if Higgs were to go it could scupper whatever progress is being made with a new ground.
It would be great if there were a consortium, a millionaire backer or an affluent fans' group in the wings....but there isn't.
They could stick with Buckle. Personally I hope not. He's lost the fans, and turnstile money matters. I wonder if all the players back him. I find Gill's carefully chosen words interesting. He's upset too many backroom staff; and, of course, we're dropping down the fourth division.
Money is tight. Buckle has overspent the budget agreed by the directors. Trollope, Lawrence and Patterson are now employed so I hope we're no longer paying them. We're probably still paying Penney, and Buckle's contract would need to be bought out. I think that's only the rest of the year though.
I'm a great admirer of Campbell, but when he took over before the squad knew and respected him. This squad has no history with him. It would be harder, though he has more coaching qualifications than Buckle! If Campbell were to be involved it would have to be with an experienced head by his side. Again, I'm also intrigued by Gill's two interviews.
We're not going to attract a 'name' manager, and many will be wary given our recent history with managers. A former Bristol connection, like Johnson or Boothroyd, might help.
Johnson and Campbell ? I'm not overkeen but beggars can't be choosers !!
