Well at least Elmo is!!!! Which is good.

AHMED Elmohamady says the best is yet to come from him in a Sunderland shirt.

And he believes that getting his debut goal for the club last weekend will only help him improve faster as a player.

“It was very good to get my first goal, I feel better for it,” admitted the Egyptian, who had more than 40 appearances previously without getting off the mark.

“When you score, for any player, but for me especially, it gives you confidence.

“There is more to come from me after this, definitely. When you play and score your first goal you want to do it again and hopefully I can do that.

“This is my second season here now and it has been very good.

“I feel better than I did last season and in every game I learn something new and feel more experienced in the Premier League.

“I have had one-and-a-half seasons here now, I’m happy on the right of midfield or attacking and defending as a right-back as well.

“I’ll get better as every game goes by in the Premier League but the games I’ve played so far, I feel I’ve done better than last season.”

While Elmohamady is happy with his own progress, he’s the first to accept that Sunderland could have done better this season.

But he insists that Sunderland are not too far away from turning things around and with a bit of luck could easily have been much higher in the table.

“It’s football – sometimes you play well and lose, but I think we’ll come better soon,” he said.

“Some teams don’t have a good start but come good later. Last season we started very good but after January we went a lot of games without winning, which was hard.

“But I think we’ll come better this season.

“We finished in the top 10 last season and I believe we can finish above that, maybe in the top eight or nine.“We have a bigger squad now and some very good players have come in, so I think we’ll be OK.

“We have experienced players in the squad who have played at big teams. Everyone is behind the manager.

“It’s tough on the players to hear he is under pressure but sometimes fans will go for the player or the manager. We’re in it together though – the players and the staff.”
