http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/lfc-are-premier-league-s-youngest Very basic analysis but taking current league position + ave. age of squad ranking creates a table like below (e.g. Arsenal 2 [2nd youngest] + 5 [current position = 7pts, lowest points score at the top) Table For League Position Per Age of Squad: 1 Arsenal 2 Liverpool 3(=) Man City 3(=) Spurs 5 Man U 6 Southampton 7(=) Everton 7(=) West Ham 9 Newcastle 10 Chelsea 11(=) West Brom 11(=) Swansea 13 Aston Villa 14(=) Fulham 14(=) Reading 16 Sunderland 17(=) Stoke 17(=) Norwich 19 Wigan 20 QPR
Interesting to see. Seems the owners are getting their wish. We have some talented younger players but we could do with 1 or 2 more experienced ones to balance it. It also shows how thin our squad was at the start of the year and we were forced into bringing youth players in and repeatably starting them. Thankfully they've been up to the task and we've actually bought well this year in Sturridge and Coutinho.
Yeah for me this sort of thing skews reality somewhat. Basically we've been better results wise (I'd imagine) when the average age has been higher second half of the season. It is good for the future that we've been able to blood some youngsters like Sterling, Wisdom etc but we brought them through out of necessity not because they were ready. Thankfully they coped reasonably well and we now have a few players who we can count as being good enough to be squad members next season.
If a lot of these kids are to come through into the first team then it is even more important that we have experience around them.
