    Just realised that our previous opponents sit in positions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 14 and 18.

6 of those would be in the top 10 with a game in hand without our points.

Our winless streak is there for all to see and is mainly our own doing but luck of the draw is slightly against us.

[assumes crash position with fingers in ears]

over the 10 games we have had some games we would expect to lose and some we would expect to win
We have had fairly easy home games by premiership standard so we have done poorly
    Hughes out

Hi Matt, well done for having a go at presenting some reason but sensible to adopt the brace position!

I normally agree with rangercol on just about everything but I am not quite as certain that 'Hughes Out' is a good idea at all. There are some intuitive / inexplicable reasons for that and some more concrete ones.

An example of the 'intuitive' type reason is the trust I have in Fernandez. I hope even the Hughes antagonists will agree that to have done so badly / unluckily and to have such support from the Chairman is unusual in football. Some will say it is because the pair of them share the same delusion! I choose to believe Fernandez. He has a good track record of business intuition and I just hope and pray he is right.

On the more concrete side, and perhaps to the incredulity of some, the bookies still have Soton, Reading and Norwich to go down before us. Why are they not joining in with the cries of, 'Hughes Out'?! Possibly because looking at our squad and the bad run, they don't believe it can continue for the whole season. Adkins is actually favourite for the sack with Hughes next just behind Mancini!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some are taking the view that 'Hughes Out' is the solution. I am not completely convinced of that though less sure than I was before the Reading game. Other are taking the long term view that this run of bad luck, bad decisions and some bad form cannot continue all season. No disrespect froim me to any individual in their chosen stance. I can see it both ways.

Whichever way you choose, it is, ultimately, still a gamble. I am glad it is not my money that is at risk and I just hope that we survice another season.

If Wigan can do what they did last season at the 11th hour, I can at least see why the bookies think we can do that too with three quarters of the season still to go.

Hoping Christmas brings us good cheer indeed. COYRssssss!!

I raised this issue earlier in the season. You certainly didn't get any favours from the fixture computer. The trouble is though that the longer it goes winless the more desolate the position becomes and that seems to effect the team.Southampton are in a similar position-played eight from the top half.I think our inclusion at the bottom is rather because we are Norwich,we are always favourites for the drop wherever we are in the table.

You need to be careful with the bookies though because odds are rather more about people's perceptions.Best illustrated by a match like Man city v Ajax tonight where the home team are very strong favourites despite getting stuffed 3-1 a fortnight ago.My feeling is that two of the bottom three will go down,I just don't know which two.

Except for Swansea at home on first day! They did what they normally do. Quietly get on with it with no fanfare and gloss and signed very wisely over the closed season. We were underprepared and assumed the usual tonking of Swansea woudl take place at LR! They were training and we were off in The Far East playing Mickey Mouse teams where even SWP scored!!

I have come to beleive that this game did very bad things for us in many ways from which we are yet to recover. Had we won that game we would now be on 7 points or more and looking more hopefully at climbing the table. Spilt milk etc but lessons for the future whichever division we end up in.

    Hi All,

I'm not a regular contributor on here but i do read the forum everyday.
I just wanted to share a few thoughts with you and wanted to get a proper feel
of what everyone thinks. So putting it in this thread as it seems appropriate.

In my spare time, I'm a football statto/author/writer/researcher and general football anorak.
I'm more involved on the International Football side of things however I do a lot of research on the Premeir
league as well. Here is a few stats I've come up with

Been a QPR fan for over 35 years and as with the majority on here am very disappointed with the start Rangers have made
this season. Pre-season was full of promise, but the performances haven't reflected any of the potential that the team has.
To take only 4 points from 10 games is not the form that inspires anyone particularly us as fans.
However are the Board or TF in particular right to back Mark Hughes.
This time last season we had 12 points, today we have only 4.

Should he wait and see what will happen in the next 4 games..
where we have Stoke (A), Southampton (H), Man Utd (A) and then Sunderland (A)

I did a bit of analysis and here is the current form guide over the last 3 games. (Hope the formatting is ok)

    Last 3 Games Pts
    1 MAN UTD 9
    2 MAN CITY 7
    3 NORWICH 7
    4 WIGAN ATH 6
    5 FULHAM 5
    6 NEWCASTLE 5
    7 LIVERPOOL 5
    8 A VILLA 4
    9 CHELSEA 4
    10 WEST HAM 4
    11 SWANSEA 4
    12 ARSENAL 3
    13 EVERTON 3
    14 TOTTENHAM 3
    15 WBA 3
    16 QPR 2
    17 READING 2
    18 SUNDERLAND 2
    19 STOKE 1
    20 SOUTHAMPTON 0

As can be seen 3 of our next 4 opposition are below us (just) on current form.
In my view those are must win games..we should be looking to get all 9 points..or at best 7 points.ok I think we all can say that Man U game can be written off, but
we should still go there in the frame of mind that we can get something.
I just hope that Hughes goes into those games with an attacking formation...out of those teams below us on current form we are the only ones who on ave have had
50% possession of the bal in games,

    Ave Possession
    QPR 50%
    Southampton 45%
    Sunderland 44%
    Stoke 40%

Ave % shots on target to shots on goal
    QPR 32% 42/131
    Stoke 32% 34/105
    Southampton 29% 37/128
    Sunderland 18% 17/78

So statistically we have had more possession than the teams we will be facing and better shots on target %age ...will this all make any difference or is all this stats stuff a load of rubbish ?????

I'm sure the club know whats at stake in the next four games, for me its got to be at least 7 points from those four games as amust..anything less and it has to be goodbye to Mr Hughes and goodbye to the Prem .
So really the players need to act now, do they have it in them ??...I believe they do
My only problem with that is that they can't afford four more games into the season to learn how to play together !!

Rajman, that is a first class, barn storming and very incisive post.

You have masterfully demonstrated to the HOB (Hughes Out Brigade) just why Hughes needs to stay a bit longer until we get the rub of the green.

I stated above that I was wavering after the Reading game but having read your post, I feel a lot more encouraged.

Of course we all know there are 'lies, damned lies and statistics' so it all really depends on points on the board. You have shown that there are winnable games out there, despite where we are at right now.

    Great post. Well done.

Thanks for your post and welcome Raj! Your last paragragh confirms for me that TF cannot afford to wait longer before replacing the Manager. There is very little to suggest in our performances so far this season that we can pick up those 7 points in the next 4 games.

Just goes to show that you can read whatever you like into statistics - just find the ones that suit! I think the League Table after 10 games says it all.

Welcome Raj..thanks for the post but personally dont believe in stats....load of sh**e in my opinion...eg...

    Satats say:
When ever Taarabtt plays in out team this eason..we will not win
When ever Granero plays in our team this season..we will not win
Whenever Ceasar plays in our team this season...we will not win
When ever .....you get the point
When assesing the colour pigments the make up the cloud formations and atmosphere, the majority are grenn....ie.the sky is green not blue !!

So as far as stats go, i personally could not give a toss.....

Would love to know how stats would help us to explain lack of effort, commitment or desire...?

Stats are a poor mans excuse that has no knowledge of football phsycology or outside influences that affect a result.

Please raj, dont take this as a personall attack, merely an attempt to show that in true effect.."stats" are just actually a media tool that can be used to promote or derise any point of view...!

    Thanx again and welcome...!

Oslo, I did concede that it all depends on points on the board. That is the only measure of success in football. I still found it encouraging to read and brought some hope, albeit a glimmer, for the near future.

Queens, agree strongly there too. All the hidden factors behind the scenes that we will never have any knowledge of at all.

However, some of those might change in our favour too!

If we don't beat Soton I can't see us getting more than 2 points from those four games.

In conclusion, the most important stat is the table yet other stats can be helpful and show signs of progress.

If MH visits these boards (which I'm sure he doesn't) he'll be showing these stats to TF.

Stats are very misleading indeed and should be taken lightly. A player can cover the most amount of distance in a game but still not achieve anything. A player could have 20 shots but if one doesn't go in etc etc etc. Possession, i don't care how much percentage we have as long as we get 3 points. You are only as good as your last game and can only beat what's in front of you!. If you needed 4 points to stay up and only had one game left then stats wouldn't matter then!
