So, after Coleman upsets Riether in the revisited right-back vote, and Leighton Baines completely dominates the left-back nominations*, we have our defence completed. It includes three Everton players in the shape of the previously referenced full-backs and Phil Jagielka, followed by his CB partner Jan Vertonghen rounding off the back-four with Mignolet between the sticks. Not bad so far!

Time to move on to midfield, starting off with a right midfielder or winger, so as per usual vote for the RM/RW that put in the best performance(s) against Saints this season, home and/or away.

If players played in different positions in each game or moved around during games, then just ask me and I will decide which position they can be nominated for (I.e. Bale played largely central at WHL, and then scored from the right, but he will be classified as a LM for the purpose of this XI).

    And away we go!

*Anyone who playfully asks why there was no left-back vote will be garotted. That means you, Dan.

Tricky one, this. I can't think of many who really dominated that flank, other than Bale who we're not considering, but I seem to remember Nathan Dyer and Theo Walcott both being pretty solid. I'll say Dyer, because Walcott didn't start both games.

Indeed, I just scrolled down our fixture list trying to remind myself of any stand-out performance, and I'm really struggling.

I'll probably just wait for someone to have a moment of inspiration and come up with someone clever and then copy them. :bandit:

Probably Dyer, too. No huge standouts - as good as Walcott was at the Emirates, he was ineffective at St Mary's. Lennon deserves a mention.

Dyer is my nomination, I'm not nominating three!

I have no idea though. I suppose Dyer is the easy option for his goals.

I suppose this thread is a great homage to Luke Shaw's season.

He only scored one didn't he? Second game was 0-0.

I thought he was decent in the second game but really he did nothing but get presented a one-on-one in the first. There's a real dearth of options here, which has surprised me.

I'm going to say Aaron Lennon just so we have a contest. He did play most of the two games against us, and he's a better player than Dyer

Wow, I'm amazed. Dyer was nothing more than ok against us, but one player gave Shaw the run around until he was switched wings and that was Chelsea's Moses. He caused him loads of problems.

    Moses is my nomination.

My nomination remains Dyer, but I might as well throw some names out there for people to consider:

Oscar, Matt Jarvis, Hal Robson-Kanu, Robert Snodgrass, Damien Duff.

I'll go with Aaron Lennon as well. Who did Manure have running down the right..?

Yeah, I thought that Dyer was pretty average...his goal was an utter gift.

Moses' performance was an odd one; he looked like their best attacking player to me, as he scared the bejeezus out of Shaw and our central defenders. Chelsea fans had a rather different opinion, because most of those moves broke down eventually.

Does Odemwingie count? He was nominally playing wide on the right, though as tends to be the case with West Brom's forward line, he was really playing wherever happened to suit him at that moment. And while he only started in one of the two matches, he gave Fox a torrid time. More of a torrid time than Fox has against most, for that matter.

Odemwingie had crossed my mind, I think it's fair enough to include him in this category.

Walcott for me, absolutely tore us apart at the Emirates. Am completely disregarding his poor showing at SMS as he was playing up front

Odemwingie for those two goals and performance at the Hawthorns. Not many right midfielders or wingers stood out against us as mentioned.

He came on after 75 minutes against us in that game when the score was already 5-1. Second game he played striker.

Valencia in the first and then Welbeck in the second, although Welbeck was a lot more central.
