It's a little tiresome hearing managers struggle against Swansea and turn against the ref. When they roll out the old 'consistency' criticism it shows how desperate they are (it's a clear acknowledgement that they can find no fault int he actual decisions). Some times they just need to admit that they were lucky not to have gotten a hiding - six wouldn't have been unrealistic. Some things to point out for Coyle: it was Gardner's third foul, not first (watch the video - ref signals that it was third offence - Gardner had already escaped taking out one of our players earlier - really should have got a yellow for that, if anything), Britton was booked for that challenge (not later on), Coyle commented that one of our players tugged a player back earlier (he should consider context really - Dyer was in the process of skinning Gardner, the one he comments on saw a number of Swans defenders around the Bolton player), and this 'agenda' against Bolton - why? When has anyone ever seen a clear bias against them? Does he really think the league has a determination for the Swnas to stay up over anyone else? It's desperate and irresponsible - so easy to vaguely hint (it has to stay vague because there's no substance to it) but he should be responsible enough to realise that he is making a very serious allegation of corruption. Something that would become a police matter and could destroy a career. Some managers need to think before they open their mouths.
Roy Hodgson made some good noises after the West Brom game and he gets a great deal of respect from me. Most of the others come out with the same whinging tripe. Mind you, Brendan has a knack of saying we were 'wonderful' or 'terrific' no matter what the result!
Martinez does that about Wigan and they lose all the time! 5 points picked up from the 3 promoted sides in their first 3 games and they haven't picked up a point since! What a laughing stock! Onto the topic - during the League 1 Championship winning season, almost every other team had their 'worst game of the season' against us according to opposition fans on 606. When you get that reaction from enough teams, you realise that it's your team making all the other teams look like mugs. This season, if we are winning penalties and seeing opponents sent off and booked often, it will be solely down to our team getting in the right areas and playing good football. When you get 70% of the ball as we did yesterday, there's not much else that Bolton could do other than foul to be honest!
Yes, I was pretty cheesed off with Coyle's stupid comments after the game. Why can't managers give credit when it's due? His team were outplayed yesterday and the sending off was more than justified. In fact Reo-Coker should have gone too but I don't think he even got one yellow! Fact is, managers under pressure like to deflect the spotlight away from their own team's inadequacies. I think Brendan does tend to put a gloss on things at times, but I find his post match comments pretty fair. I used to cringe at Sousa's whining.
Funny how Martinez can talk for 5 mins without actually saying anything, micky Quinn giving him and Coyle some stick on talkspoprt this am.
The guy is trying to hold on to his job. So will try and say anything to deflect from his own inept performance. but to moan about the sending off was rediculous. Gardener should have walked in the first have and lucky to be coming out in the second half. Reo cocker was another lucky not to be booked early on. Thought the ref had a tidy game yeaterday. But then i would. Coyle realise his team were out thought, out played for long periods of that game. but he aint going to say it.
Thing is you got to take the positives out of every game, there are always some even when you get a 4 nil loss! By whining on about the ref should have seen this, or the linesman that, it just makes you out to be a sore loser and has a negative impact on players and us fans watching. And yes Sousa going on about almost a conspiracy to stop us winning games by refs , was cringeworthy ! Though at times it did seem that way
It bothers me not a jot. While it does not paint that particular manager in a gracious light, it allows us to carry on as the underdog and slip under the radar. We should be used to this after the last 8 years of exactly the same.
Have to say Gardner was luck not to see red in the first half for scything down Dyer. He gave the ref no option then with persisting fouling then when pulling Dyer back he knew what was coming. Glad to see Pratley get a decent reception.
martinez makes me laugh because win lose or draw, whether he wins 1-0 or loses 8-1 he always says the same thing...."we played well and if only we took our chances" To think he could have still have been our manager if things turned out different ..
As was said above , these managers have to deflect critisism away from themselves Bruce, martinez, mcarthy, coyle all guys under presure and are close to losing their jobs! the last thing they want to admit is that they got turned over by little old Swansea who s whole team cost the same price as one of their players!! It is embarrising when you see the price of some of these so called prem players ,some of them couldnt trap a bag of cement !! and theres our team of lower league mongrols running rings round them ! how do they explain that to their chairmen ?? easy, blame the ref !!
...and Ferguson. The reason you don't hear more whining from him is that Man Utd don't lose very often.
Thats because they Arnt under pressure to lose their jobs. I dont Think fergie or wenger moan too much about the refs after the game ,of course everyone has a gripe now and again but pulis i Will grant you! Moaned like **** down herr after getting a good beating
I wouldn't swap Brendan for the world, but still think Martinez was a great manager for us and had he been with us, who knows, we still could have been premier league and think he is god.....
In fairness, the standard of refereeing, and some of the decisions that cost points in a multi, multi million pound industry, naturally give rise to complaints. If I was managar I'd have to impose a self-ban on talking to the press after a game if we lost, and possibly even if we won!
Owen Coyle’s was understandably miffed with his side’s eighth defeat of the season, but he felt that a lack of consistency from referee Mark Clattenburg had been a contributing factor, he is insinuating that referee Clattenburg, has an agenda against Bolton, and has sighted also his handling of Bolton's match against Arsenal, when David Wheater was sent off in their 3-0 defeat against the Gunners. Now I have seen some bad referees in my time, but Mark Clattenburg, does not fall into that category, I've watched numerous games he has officiated in, and to me he is what I consider a quality ref, and the Manchester derby was a good example of that. If Clattenburg's yellow had been just for that foul then Coyle may have had a point, But as it was awarded for persistent foul play (something made perfectly clear at the time by Clattenburg) then he'd probably be better served by concentrating on his own teams failings rather some paranoid anti-ref agenda. On a general observation, I find the quality of refereeing much better in the Premiership, than the Championship, so far this season, and I'm happy that our players are getting the protection from the referees, that they deserve at this level, that they certainly did not get at Championship level, and I sight two obvious games to support this, firstly QPR game where Dorus de Vries, ended up with a head fracture, from a bad tackle from Martin Rowlands, who should have received a straight Red for his tackle on our keeper, but the inept referee Bates did absolutely nothing, even QPR supporters could see that he should have gone, a truly awful refereeing decision. Then there is the famous cup game against Scunny, where we ended up having 6 or 7 players left on the field, due to some of the worst refereeing I have ever seen, our players where kicked from pillar to post, and nothing given by the complete idiot of a referee, James Linington, who completely ruined the game. In all my years of watching the Swans and football in general, I can tell you, I have never seen any referee officiate a game as bad as Linington did that night, he was a complete disgrace to his profession, we ended up having just 6 players on the pitch, and the idiot put pressure on Sousa, to put our injured lad Besian Idrizaj, back on the pitch, so that the game could finish. To conclude It's my view that Coyle has nothing to complain about, and it would seem he is feeling the pressure of his own managerial limitations, and if he doesn't get his act together, and that of his team, then his sacking will surely be iminent!............. please log in to view this image
Dragon, I've been reading your posts for years, and there's no way you wrote all (or any) of that yourself. Confess!
