Football is a matter of opinion and as a results driven business one cannot help but say that at last BCFC has in SC a manager who is appearing to be getting it right. However this season we seem to be getting somewhat lucky with barely deserved wins over MK Dons and Chesterfield. I guess we have developed a wining habit whereas previously we had a losing habit. How do you guys see the rest of the season going and where should we be looking to strengthen the squad in January. Personally I still feel we lack pace at the back and in this respect Smithâs coverage has been the main reason for our success to date. Personally I feel that we will get automatic promotion along with Preston. I think SC is a strong manager who wonât tolerate any under achievers (why was Elliott Parish completely blanked?). So letâs hope that Bobby Reid is similarly ânot ratedâ by SC and shown the door as I felt he was just about to become a first team regular
He speaks very highly of Bobby Reid and Jordan Wynter as far as I am aware, both have done really well on their recent loan spells? (I don't quite get you last sentence? Do you rate him or not?) Are you based in France then? LARED. Welcome by the way.
I wasn't overwhelmed with Cotterill's appointment. But how can you knock the bloke (other than substitutions). He's made me look forward again going to Ashton Gate, I dreaded going when SOD was in charge. The players he's signed have been excellent and his positivity and enthusiasm has lifted the whole club. I also give credit to Cotterill for the way the new players have gelled into all things BCFC. I've been very critical at times about Cotterill but happy to admit I have been proved wrong. Very wrong.
[Do I rate SC or not ? The answer is of course I do as he is at last delivering results and that is what football is about. I recall asking O'Driscoll why any manager would substitute players with a minute to go bearing in mind the rumoured £500 a match appearance money. He avoided answering saying that was a contractual matter and this lost my respect. However nothing is perfect and I am always a pessimist having suffered the crap we have to endure for the last 5 years or so. I just cant believe our form at the moment and wonder if its all a dream. Still two weeks ago I lost a football pal and that brings it all into perspective i.e. its just a game. French no just from a local village ??
ahh LA red got you.. I meant do you rate Bobby Reid? this didn't make sense to me (and still doesn't ?) "So let’s hope that Bobby Reid is similarly “not rated” by SC and shown the door as I felt he was just about to become a first team regular"
Bobby Reid is doing very well at Plymouth, they want to keep him longer...he's going the same route as Joe Bryan, who was thought a lot of down at Home Park.
"It's a cunning plan" if you ask me! If we can't understand the subs, what do you expect the opposing manager to make of them!!
SOD was a good manager, but he was a yes man when the club clearly needed a no man. For this reason it's no wonder why he went to the FA and is now in change of the England U19's. What SC has done is remarkable. He's been given the opportunity to sign the players he wants, and he's signed players that fall outside the "five pillars". SC was hired as a manager when nearly all of our managers before were hired as head coaches. This leads me to believe that Millen, McInnes, and SOD stuck to coaching and SC is the first person since GJ to actually be given full reign. It's also refreshing to see that the board have realised that they were at fault for our failures, otherwise why would they hire SC as a manager and not get a glorified coach that will put their plan into action? Initially, I wasn't sold on him, but he's done a great job to get us from falling giants to a force to be reckoned with again. Looking at the squad now, I think we could get promoted, but I don't think we'd do well in the Championship without significant investment again. Ideally, I'd like to see us utilise some of our youngsters, as it's young talent that will help us make the push towards being a good Championship team again.
I'm pretty sure SoD was the first and only "head coach" actually. Always thought McInnes and Millen etc were managers.
Cotteril has a touch of the Cloughy about him, which I like. Lets hope he is in that mould when it comes to football at a higher level. Certainly, one is encouraged to imagine - what if he is the real deal ? Like the Shanklys etc his enthusiasm seems boundless, and he carries himself with authority and an inner confidence that spreads to his players and to the the club generally. As inevitable as the tide rolls into Weston bay, time will tell...
Well its nice to see someone has Rp In respect of substitutions, they may seem bizarre at times, but it slows the momentum of the opposition, and takes a bit of heat out of the game, at times it has won us a game, and at other times secured us the game, ie Saturday, so keep making those subs SC, as its keeping us unbeaten.
Like the majority of fans I was underwhelemed when he came in, especially the way he was appointed which was dubious with a capital D. Always liked him at Cheltenham and wanted him to be our Manager quite a few years ago before he went to Burnley. In my opinion we need to strengthen in January and if we dont we run the risk of doing what we did when well placed in the Championship and ended up losing to Hull. Dont care if we bring in a couple of squad players just to keep first team players focused and on their toes for the final run in.
I have been going to Weston Super Mud since 1947 and cannot ever remember the tide being in. I've always thought it is possible to walk to Cardiff.
To quote a leading academy coach, "there is no such thing as luck, only good habits, bad habits, hard work, personal responsibility or a lack of concentration." BCFC are top because they have been able to recruit better, and in some cases recruit far more expensive than the rest of the league players who bring those positives v negatives into the XI.
Despite our current position and luck I still think we are not close to the finished product. We certainly have a totally different mindset and our manager seems to have got things right where others have failed badly before for whatever reason. One of the main things I hear is our goalkeeping spot and the scary moments surrounding that position, but I ask the question as to whether it is all down to the keeper or is it the formation, or players, in front of him? If we can maintain this impetus through Christmas perhaps SC will dip in to the January transfer window to shore up what will still hopefully be a serious challenge for one of the automatic promotion spots which would be a potential rebuild from a position of strength. I always think that some teams flounder hopelessly looking for salvation in January because they failed to get it right when the season started but at least this year we are in a current strong state but with a little tweak who knows.
I think at the moment we are the best of a fairly average Div 1 group but our success has been build on being able to score more goals than the opposition whereas good teams are always able to defend leads something which we have palpably failed to do this season. This has been coupled with large slices of luck (we should have been 3 or 4 down at half time last night against Bradford) . Yes we need strengthening but hey ho lets enjoy the current success. My predicted winners of the League are Preston. I also believe that BCFC will go up but not sure of the route. I am also confident that at some stage we will be hammered as our defence is purely average
