Value all you guys' opinion a lot, so just wandered what everyone's views were on the below players and what we should do with them? For what it's worth here are my thoughts Henderson - For me, lacks a great deal of vision - is 22 and tbh I think he is worse than when he was at Sunderland. - Unsure where his strengths really lie, he's not a great CDM, CM or CAM tbh! - Do not think he will suddenly come good - Lucas displayed CDM qualities back when he was a box to box player that hendo does not show, so no comparisons MFG... - Think we should sell him and take a £10-£15m loss Shelvey - 20 years old now - Still has a bit of time on his hands - can be very raw at times, can't tackle for **** - Think he should be loaned for a season to a premier league side but only where he will be a starter - In the future think he could be a very valuable squad member, but not a first teamer of the caliber we need Carroll - is he still injured?? Downing and Cole - Get rid ASAP, serious wasters of their respective positions, would rather have an academy player as a passenger gaining experience than those two. Pacheco - Really am unsure tbh. Clearly never going to be the player we thought he would be. He's what, 21 now? Could he do a job for us? So what do you guys reckon - are the above deadwood that should be cleared for the new wave of yongsters/signings? or still of value?
The only one's out of that lot I would consider keeping out of that lot are Shelvey and Henderson. As for taking a £15 million loss on Henderson? I doubt it if Liverpool would sell him for £1 million out of the £16 million they paid for him.
A worry of mine with henderson is you see in the keepy up challenge, cross bar challenge, hear from how he plays in the drills in practice that he technically can do it, but it seems that he has trouble translating that to the field. Not sure if that is an age thing or just the thing that will block him from becoming an important player for us but OK for another team. Agree about it is a compltely different Henderson than the one we bought from Sunderland. Shelvey I am on the fence about, really can't make my mind up about him. Cole and Downing go. Carroll I would only say go now if we brought in at the minimum 2 strikers. If not then I say we might as well keep him. He needs to do well at WH but I think he has played 6 games and not scored yet, not sure on assists either, maybe 1.
Apparently there is a number of clubs interested in Andy Carroll, Spurs and Newcastle being two of them. If this is the case, it may result in an auction which means that the highest bidder signs him. To cut a long story short, we can get back as much of that £35 million as we possibly can. Supposing its £25 million, it will mean we would have only lost £7 million, due to the fact we got £3 million in cash from WHU on the loan deal.
I was really disappointed to re-read the title and find out this thread was not called 'Onion Round up'. Shelvey is decent, Rodgers has given him quite a bit of responsibility to score goals... the last couple of games he has been quite awful in that department. But he does get into the box a lot, so at least he's got the right mentality. Could do with a couple more to boost his confidence. Henderson I'm gonna wait on. I'd like to think he will become good for us, then I remember we supposedly offered him to Fulham for a part of the Dempsey deal... so he might not even be a Liverpool player to talk about come next season. Carroll, Downing and Cole are as good as gone as far as I'm concerned. Pecheco... I just don't know. He's had his chances.
Carroll, Downing and Cole have been told in not so many words that their Liverpool career is over. There is rumours that the same applies to Jose Enrique. I've a feeling that Dani Pacheco is also in this bracket.
Shelvey can be good with the right midfield balance around him. He can't play with Gerrard, but he'd be great as a box to box midfielder alongside Lucas and Allen. Free him up a bit and give him license to roam and rampage forward. He shows glimpses of what he can do and hopefully BR can bring out some consistancy with him - which won't happen playing him next to both Gerrard and Allen, for example. Hendo...who knows. Sometimes he's ****e or goes missing. Sometimes he's good but quiet, ie sitting deep. Keep them both though, still time for them. The rest can go.
Shelvey will stay, rest will go. Cole and Downing are clearly not going to turn the corner. Carroll is as good as gone, Rodgers tried to shift Pacheco and Henderson in summer. Enrique is 50:50, he has a chance of turning things around. Will we sign Sahin after his loan? I doubt it as I think it will be £20m+ and we won't pay it.
Henderson I would personally keep. The kid obviously is a talent, he lacks a little bit of belief. I'm convinced he'll develop the same way Lucas did. He's definitely a far better athlete than Shelvey, although shelvey is the more at the moment intelligent of the two. Sahin for £20+ million? No chance, if Real Madrid and Maureen go that high, Liverpool will tell them to forget it. I can't see Liverpool looking to pay any more than £13 million in a total £16 million deal. (That includes the £3 million we have already paid).
I don't want to see Henderson or Carroll go but I think they will. Don't want to see Enrique go either but not sure what will happen there. I don't think Sahin will want to stay as it is, he's not getting enough game time.
I agree, the only reason I think there is uncertainty around Henderson is because of the rumoured involvement in the Dempsey deal
I agree. Henderson and Shelvey to both stay. Downing, Cole and Carroll all out, Enrique has a lot of proving to do. Sahin to sign permanently if the price is right.
Henderson has the IQ of a wet sock, and does not have the brain we need in our players. He is someone you train to do a specific job, not rely on to read the game and make instant choices to change games. I have called time on Hendo's Liverpool career, please respect that and get over it, he will never be a good player at Liverpool. I will be having words with anyone who is still spouting, "Hendo can still make it" desperate **** on here, it's embarrassing.
I agree with this. Pacheco looked good, I thought, in the pre-season games, especially the Toronto match. But he has not played as well since then, really. Definitely hasn't excelled when he's had chances in the first team. I'd like him to play at the same time as Sterling (they rarely seem to appear together -- look at the way they linked up in the aforesaid Toronto game), and he also has good understanding with Suso. I think he'll get a few more chances, but he needs to grasp them with both hands otherwise he's a goner.
