Opening Day Round 1 - The only thing I hope for this season is that we have a win to kick the season off. After the last two PL season opening days ( getting flogged ) ......... surely it's going to be third time lucky. Being that we are at home, a win should be expected ( no disrespect for Hull ) and if we can achieve it, I believe such a win would have more significance than any other during the season. A win will enable the team to feel confident of the season ahead, a loss would make us all feel, players included, that it's could be a case of 'here we go again'. A draw, well .............. I don't believe in draws, if they happen, ok but I'm of the opinion that a team should never openly play for a draw. It's like being put in the corner and told, your not good enough to win, let's settle for second best ............... a real put down if you ask me. Anyway, that's my two bob's worth, what are your thoughts ........................
We will need to beat teams like Hull at home to survive, there are 12 teams already in the relegation dog fight, we'll need to beat them
Exactly, while I believe Hull would strengthening their side from last season, that doesn't change the fact that we still need to win against them and because we are at home.
We saw before the effect not winning has on a team, so we should all hope for a win. A scrappy lucky 1-0 win would be marvellous. Hull won't be a push over though and the old "they're the sort of team we should be beating " line was bandied about a plenty before both the Bolton and Swansea games during our last visit to the Premiership. After those two games I'd be happy for us to not concede 4 or 5 goals... Win, lose or draw on that first day, the sooner we get points on the board the better.
Id be happy with a steady start that shows promise of a team thats going to be able to compete in that league a win would be great and id take a draw. If w do lose and its a decent performance with promissing signs then i wont be sliting my wrist just yet!! just a decent start would do for me EDIT:..They will need time to GEL !!!
We basically require 10 wins and 10 draws from 26 games to have a chance of surviving (disregarding the 12 games against the top 6 sides) so we do need to pick up point(s) against Hull to get momentum. Anything we get from those 12 games against the top 6 is a bonus......
