Heard the final throes of the match on the radio.Danny coles off the line from JJ typical! So whats the verdict only one game but zero points hardly moral boosting though. Letting 2 goals in very dissapointing.Do we need to be patient? this is the same side as the end of last year so they cannot blame it on new signings not bedding in. As I did not go today its up to the faithful to comment give match and player appraisals. The squad looks very thin with no game changers on the bench, all youngsters with very little experience its a little worrying if the starting 11 get injured or dont perform none of the players on the bench give me any confidence. 20 Gough 34 Keary 35 Southway 00 Lockyer 31 Hunter 33 Santos The starting 11 pick themselves with no competition Noticed the BBC website was rubbish at updating scores today City shows 2-1 but they drew 2-2. COR
only 3 points away from top with 45 games to go. hows that for positivity? we need our players back. when harrold, woodards, clucas and brunt are back we will be in a far better position. ward just said on the radio he cant bring anyone in at all as wage cap is at its limit. he said he will ask chesterfield in how they are doing it as they keep bringing in players everyday!
Not worried about Chesterfield 45 games to go are you counting down already CJ still we also suck on the opening day I am just concerned about the squads lack of depth seriously poor. COR
I'm not that bothered I don't expect us to go up anyway this season my prediction is 10th so whatever dudes
very disappointed. only 1 opening day win since 2004. The injuries are just killing us and it will be a tough next couple of weeks. Watford are a great side, Scunthorpe made some good signings this summer, and Newport sounded good. Zebroski scored 2, what's he on? The most worrying aspect of today is that Exeter aren't a great side, and regardless of injuries we should be getting a draw. We need new signings. It looks as if the wage bill is quite high, but with the current squad, there's little chance of promotion. As for the BBC updates, it was the same on Sky, ESPN and almost every other site, so I guess they use the same system.
A few points about todays game and our squad! Kids wont win you anything, we have a few really good prospects by the look of things, expecting them to carry the team forward for what ever reason is more likely to break them than make them. Where were we when the likes of Sam Parkin became available? Saw Kenneth at the Reading game looked lean and mean, I would gamble with him and stick him up front, especially if our game plan is to hoof the ball forward as often as possible, forget Matt Harrold it aint his game, does not win enough with his head and what he wins usually ends up in no mans land (not necessarily his fault) what he is proven at at this level is getting goals so the two could possibly be a pairing? Positives, the kids yes, but too soon for most, great ball in from Ellis for Elliots goal, not detracting from the finish but with a cross of that quality I could probably finished it! McChristal's talking and general leadership putting arm around Ellis and chatting to him etc, JJ for sure, but being very cynical if I was him I might be seeing JW on Monday morning and asking whats going on! Alfie taking on his man and turning him inside out more than once. Finally considering Exeter are seen as a footballing team they pumped the ball forward as much as us, didnt look any better than us, but had a little more about them over most the pitch (men against boys!! Think im right in saying we had two meaningful shots on target all game?
Hmm So long you do not sound impressed (am I surprised) Roll on next league game as the Watford game is a bust COR
Hello COR To be honest, I didnt have great expectations anyway, so I was not really suprised, we were stronger on paper at the end of last season, we are Rovers so there is always a hard luck story, but generally I do believe we are on an upward spiral. We need a strong street wise squad to get out of this league, it is very unlikely that kids will cut it! As much as I want to see us play proper football, I think a more direct approach is the best way forward, we played it that way mostly today but with the wrong players, which begs the question why? If we only have players of flair available then get the ball to feet, the pitch looked perfect for that game today! As I said earlier I think we could do worse than put Kenneth up top, along side Richards, Brunt or Clarkson see what happens, we have to show more threat on goal than today thats for sure, please JW dont instruct everyone to guard the box from corners, we have to have a target to clear too rather than clear it and wait for the inevitable return ball, today we defended the box from corners to a man whilst Exeter kept two on the half way line, these two and the corner taker gives a ratio of 10 defending against 7 in the box or around the box! Watford will be a different game altogether just as the Reading game was, they will play football and that will give us a chance to do the same, we do look better when we get the ball on the deck, the kids will be ok, but back to the direct physical league were in the same cant be said, I think we are in for a long hard season, when we wake up and realize that in a couple of months time the board will sanction more loan players more suited to what we need and we will end up comfortable mid table come the end of season.
i wasnt at the game so i can only go by the commentators who at times seemed more interested in the yellow boots that some players were wearing. and i can go by what those who were at the game said. all dont sound that great at all. we need our players back asap. good experience though in the meantime for our youngster i suppose.
Wasn't at the game yesterday but some people said there was a lot of high balls and pumpin it forward .... what with no recognised centre forward up front it was just givin the ball straight back to the opposition. Where was this philosophy about when you get the ball you have to keep it? Last season when we went to Fleetwood (I did go!), we got the ball down on the deck and passed it around, and ripped Fleetwood apart. Our youngsters last season won the double playing good football, so why arn't we at least attempting to play football on the deck?? I'm not having a go, I just wonder why sometimes things can seem so obvious to people watching ... but the management don't seem to change it, or even have a go at it? Perhaps that's why I'm not a manager!!!
great post. listening to the fans phoning twentyman after the game, all saying high balls to harding who never stood a chance. he played well in friendlies when ball was at his feet but yesterday he was often left on his own with experienced defenders coles and baldwin who never gave him a snift when the long balls went to him. we need to play to the strengths of the players who are on the pitch and at the same time to do the basics right. we have a good defence and keeper but need to release pressure from them which is the midfields job. with the same team, we must do a better job next saturday.
Has anyone got high hopes for the first league game at home? As for the style of play tends to be the Ward way love it or loathe it, agree with the keep the ball on the floor philosophy with the players at our disposal Harrison,Richards,Harding,Norburn and clarkson they are not high ball players they like the ball at there feet. TBF its down to the defenders to keep the ball on the deck and play it out from the back linking better with midfield sounds as if this did not take place. If we get a draw with Scunny next weekend, then we will be lucky, sounds as if they won on Saturday never getting out of cruise control. Scunthorpe sides are normally big and strong not looking forward to this game given our current resources. Lat season we did not pick up a win until game 8 then promply lost the 9th one lets see how long it takes for us to win one. COR
before yesterday COR i did. since yesterday i dont have high hopes. but if we play like we did against reading then i would be confident. but play like how we sounded yesterday and by what im told by the guys on here who went then not confident.
Not what we want to hear or think so early in the season CJ but realistic given our injury problems and thin squad. We should be looking forward to play Scunny in a positive frame of mind but hey ho its early days as you said still 45 games left in the season and perhaps its to early to predict a poor season (again) as we will get stronger if some of the players return to the team quickly its just the serious nature of some of the injuries this means that you cannot hurry them back or the revenue issue re picking up some loans to bridge the gap not good. COR View attachment 25169
the fans need to be patient and understand the situation. there will be no point making the atmosphere negative at the ground like under buckle/mcghee as we are stuck until injured players return. all we can do is get behind the players and keep on encouraging them, especially the youngsters. i hope the gasheads get behind the players on saturday. i wont be there. im away on a long weekend. wont have internet access so i wont even be on here. leaving early hours saturday and back on tuesday.
As much as I think you are all disgusting mutants, but **** me you don't need negative fans like you after one game.
Shows what you know about Rovers, Rodders, its not negative just realism something you are short of besides braincells (no offense). The team has been decimated by serious injuries in key areas all over the park Attack Midfield and defence, leaving us woefully short and youngsters now occupy the bench and starting 11. We have not started a season with so many key individuals out, and very little in the way of like for like replacements in the squad so naturally we are dissapointed and realistic as to what we may acheive over the next few months. Perhaps you would be kind enough to lend us a striker free and continue to pay his wages as we also have no budget left either to buy our way out of this predicament. COR
yep, we are being realistic not negative. realistic not deluded. but dont ask for a city striker. we will end up with someone as bad as agent akinde.
